Group Booked Entire Cinema Hall in Funan Mall to Play Video Games for $435

There’s nothing quite like watching a move at the cinema.

Your messy bed that for some reason always smells like cheese can’t compare to the plush theatre seats that even the pickiest of buttocks would enjoy.

This is why residents are willing to shell out up to $15 for a ticket, rather than watch the movie at home several months later.

But how much would you pay to play video games in the cinema?

A bigger screen would surely mean a better experience, right?

Well, all you’d need is $435 to find out.

Group Booked Entire Cinema Hall in Funan Mall to Play Video Games for $435

A netizen has taken to social media to gush about a “once in a lifetime experience” he had at Golden Village Funan.

Even though it was the very opposite of a complaint, the man shared the post on the Facebook group Complaint Singapore.

According to the man, he, his wife, and his two friends had rented an entire cinema hall at Golden Village Funan for three hours.

But it wasn’t to watch a movie without the annoying sound of fellow patrons munching on popcorn.

Rather, it was to play video games on the big screen.

The group had reached out to several cinema operators about renting a cinema hall for gaming purposes, but only Golden Village got back to them.

They were offered a package that came with a free flow of popcorn and drinks for the group of four.

Sounds good right?

Except that they had to fork out $435 for the package.

There was also a $455 package which included food, but they decided to go with the cheaper one.

Once they picked the package, all they had to do was test the console at the hall, sign a contract, and pay for the package.

Once in a Lifetime Experience

The man had to bring his own Xbox One S console, of course, as Golden Village does not provide gaming consoles (why would they?).

During the three hours, the group played a number of games, including Overcooked, Moving Out, and Think of the Children, while reclined in the comfy seats.

Some netizens felt that the package was too expensive, while others thought it was “wasted” that they didn’t play more graphically intensive games.

Still, it was a “once in a lifetime experience” that the group will never forget, the man said.

Similar Offer Across the Border

While Golden Village offered this package after the group reached out, other local cinemas have yet to officially offer such gaming experiences.

The group might have gotten the idea from a cinema across the border, which offered 3 hours of gaming for RM188 (S$61).

It’s a shame that we still can’t cross the border for leisure travel, or this offer would certainly have been snapped up by Singaporeans.

In the meantime, would you spend $435 to game for three hours in a cinema?
