Cabby Who Repeatedly Overcharged Passengers Caught & Fired from ComfortDelgro

If you’re old enough, you’d probably remember the days before Grab or Uber.

To get to any place fast, you’d need to take a cab.

And unlike now where everything’s going by GPS, back then, your fate is in the hands of the driver.

You have to pay attention to where he’s going because there is a possibility that he might just take longer routes for higher fares.

But what this particular ComfortDelgro driver did is worse.

Woman Upload Receipt To Singapore Taxi Driver’s Facebook Group

Facebook user Joyce K. Lee uploaded a picture of her receipt for her taxi ride. According to her, she was going to Sungei Tengah from Changi Airport Terminal 1.

And the best part: her fare came out to be $70.75.

Feeling puzzled, she decided to upload it onto the platform and ask for opinions.

And surprise, surprise. The comments came in fast and furious.

One advised her to seek help from ComfortDelgro.

Another gave an analysis of what he thought happened.

Based on the fare, he concluded that the driver overcharged on the location surcharge. He speculated that the meter was meddled with as well and said the fare should be a maximum of $50.

Some were wondering which location has a surcharge of $10.

ComfortDelgro Responds

After her post went online and reached the right ears (read: online media starts writing about it), ComfortDelgro responded to the incident.

They told media outlets that they have investigated the incident.

It was found that the man had indeed overcharged Lee and his hiring contract was terminated.

ComfortDelgro added that this wasn’t his first time overcharging passengers.

However, ComfortDelgro didn’t clarify how many times he had overcharged passengers before.

Group Corporate Communication, Ms Tammy Tan, urged Ms Lee to get in touch with them: “We hope that Ms Lee could get in touch with our Customer Service Centre at [email protected] with contact details so that we can follow up with service recovery.”

But hey, at least we know one thing now

I’m pretty sure that before this incident came along, we used to shrug and say, suay lor whenever we meet with such an incident.

After all, it’s troublesome and nobody knows if they’re going to do anything about it.

But now, you know they do.

So if you suspect that you’re being overcharged for your taxi ride, you can choose to submit it to the taxi company and they will do something about it. Probably.

After all, it might just be $20, but the fact remains that if errant taxi drivers keep getting away with it, they’re never going to disappear.

In fact, there might just be more of them, because no consequences mah. #JustSaying
