You’re probably familiar with Prima Taste, mainly because of their Laksa maggie mee that was voted best maggie mee in the world.
But did you know about the Prima Tower Revolving Restaurant near Harbourfront?
Or the fact that it has been around for 43 years, well-known for its dim sum and panoramic views?
Unfortunately, if you only found out now and you want to give it a shot yourself, you’ve lost your chance.
43-YO Revolving Restaurant in Harbourfront Closes Down; 30 Employees Are Now Jobless
The restaurant had temporarily closed during the Circuit Breaker period from 7 Apr to 1 June 2020. It was originally scheduled to reopen on 1 Aug 2020.
However, it’s closure went from temporary to permanent.
The closure of the revolving restaurant left 30 employees jobless.
Fell By Covid-19
According to CNA, a spokesperson of the restaurant said it was a “difficult decision”.
However, the restaurant was unable to “take the toll of the pandemic” any longer.
Thankfully, while the restaurant isn’t unionised (a member of the unions and thus, allow the respective union to fight for them), the severance pay was calculated according to inputs by the Singapore Hotel Association and the Food, Drinks & Allied Workers Union (FDAWU).
Besides that, the management will also be assisting their employees in seeking other employment or training opportunities.
They are currently seeking help from Workforce Singapore and the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) to see what else can be done for their ex-employees.
Some of the staff reportedly told the paper that they might be transferred to other departments.
The Prima Tower Revolving Restaurant is under the Prima Group banner which also has Prima Taste where they develop and produce instant noodles, ready-to-eat meals with distinctive Singaporean flavours to sell all over the world.
Another staff is preparing to return home to China, saying that he is happy with his compensation.
With this closure, there is only one revolving restaurant left in Singapore, the Tong Le Private Dining at Marina Bay.
