Apology

“I admit and acknowledge that these allegations are baseless, false and completely without foundation,” Sng wrote in his statements.

Facebook User’s Defamatory Posts and Legal Demands

Sng published multiple posts between 8 May and 10 May 2025 containing photos of the three officials at separate dinners where Su was present.

Su, a Cypriot national and Fujian gang member, was one of ten people convicted in a billion-dollar money laundering case in 2024. He was sentenced to 14 months’ jail in April 2024 following his arrest in August 2023 during a major money laundering probe.

The posts falsely accused Ong and Chee of being aware that Su had broken laws but condoning it, dishonestly pretending not to know Su, being involved in or susceptible to corruption, and being part of a system that shields criminals.

On 12 May, Ong and Chee issued a joint statement through their press secretaries calling these allegations “baseless and false.”

On the same day, Ng also described Sng’s posts about him as “false, misleading, and defamatory.”

All three sent Sng lawyers’ letters demanding he withdraw the allegations, apologise publicly, and pay damages by 16 May or face legal action. The officials stated that any damages received would be donated to charity.

By 15 May, Sng had amended his posts at the request of the three officials. He received formal letters of demand from lawyers acting on behalf of Ong, Chee and Ng on 15 May.
