All good things come to an end, whether it’s your youth, your career or even your favourite McDonald’s place.
For the record, the last one may just hurt the most.
Most Instagram-Worthy & 1 of the Oldest McDonald’s Outlets Due to Close This Year
A McDonald’s outlet in Ridout Tea Garden is due to close its doors soon.
Apparently, the outlet will be no more on 31 December 2021, when the lease officially expires.
Affiliated staff members were said to be unaware of the impending closure.
The news would certainly come as a huge blow to loyal patrons and affiliated personnel alike, considering how the unique outlet has served its fanbase faithfully for some 32 years.
It first kickstarted operations all the way back in 1989, making it one of the oldest outlets here.
Also, as the outlet is based in a Japanese-themed garden, it offers an experience that’s unlike any other in Singapore.
The scenery has even led some to deem it as the most picturesque fast food outlet here in Singapore.
What Happens Now?
A Price and Quality tender has since been launched for the site.
Apparently, the site is dedicated to retail or F&B purposes, and the tender is open for submission until 19 May.
Thus far, there are believed to be at least two sites interested in the site.
McDonald’s can also choose to renew their lease if they wish to.
“The tender is an opportunity for interested parties to tender for a fresh 3+3+3 year tenancy for the sites,” said the spokesman for the Singapore Land Authority (SLA).
“The incumbent tenant and sub-tenants are welcome to participate in the tender if they wish to continue their operations.”
Other Outlets
Unfortunately, the aforementioned McDonald’s outlet is not the first, nor the last, to close its doors here.
A 30-year-old outlet at Marine Cove, for instance, closed in 2012.
And in 2014, another 23-year-old outlet at King Albert Park closed its doors.
However, there are even older outlets that are still operating with no confirmed news of impending closure.
Apparently, the outlet at People’s Park Complex is the oldest operational one here.
One can only hope that the Queensway outlet will one day do a Marine Cove, and make a comeback after 4 years.
Whether the scenery will remain as lush and exquisite as before, however, is another question altogether.
