Snatch thefts are never pleasant occasions.

But even so, there’s something about getting slapped after being robbed, that really adds to the unpleasantness of it all.

Robber in M’sia Gave Victim a Slap After Snatching Her Necklace; Got Arrested 3 Days Later

A man across the causeway has been apprehended for snatching a woman’s gold necklace.

He was also caught slapping her in the face, before making a run for it.

The above could be seen in CCTV footage of the incident, which was uploaded on to social media platform Facebook on 23 November.

In the 0:26 video clip, a man garbed in black could be seen walking into a pharmacy.

We then see the video switching to an in-store angle – this time concentrating on the area around the cashier counter.

The man walks towards a woman at the counter, and tries to grab her necklace from behind.

Startled, the latter turned around.

The man then grasped the opportunity and lunged for her necklace. Despite the cashier’s attempt to intervene, the man-turned-robber succeeded.

After securing his loot, he slapped the woman in the face, before making a run for it.

According to news reports, the incident transpired at 8:47 p.m. on Saturday (21 Nov), at a pharmacy situated along Jalan Gombak, Setapak.

To date, the video has garnered over 55K views and counting.

Netizens have also expressed outrage over the incident.

“Hope your hands are broken,” one Netizen said.

“Stupid… healthy body, just work…” said another.

He then went into the restaurant and attempted to snatch another woman’s handbag.

Thankfully, he failed to take it off the woman, and quickly made a break for it.

According to the Wangsa Maju police, both suspects have since been identified and apprehended in Kuala Lumpur.

The gold necklace, which is said to be worth around RM10,000 (~S$3,283), was reportedly sold to a third party.

Police investigations are still ongoing.

Thefts

Though Kuala Lumpur is undoubtedly a great city to reside in, the federal capital of Malaysia has seen its fair share of snatch thefts over the years.

As such, a special team was formed in Feb 2019 to curb such robbery attempts.

The team’s reported to comprise some 200 policemen.

“I view seriously cases involving snatch theft because of the trauma caused to victims,” said the city’s police chief Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim.

“I want people to feel safe when in the federal capital. Our focus is to cripple the snatch theft syndicate and make Kuala Lumpur a safe city.”
