Korean variety show “Running Man” will always remain a fond memory for many Singaporeans, tuning in to watch with family members and belly laughing at the comedic actions of the cast.
However, beloved giraffe Lee Kwang Soo had previously announced that he would be leaving the show after 11 years due to health reasons.
His last episode with the show aired on Sunday (13 Jun), kicking off at the same location where the filming began in July 2010 with the cast members racing to help Lee reduce his sentence after the production staff sentenced him to 1,050 years in prison after reviewing his actions over the past years on the show.
All Running Man Members Wrote Farewell Letters to Lee Kwang Soo Before He Left the Show
The episode saw the 35-year-old meeting with the production staff to create a memorable race for the rest of the cast members.
The members read out their messages for him at the end of the episode, recalling the fond memories created together in the show.
The Running Man and Runners’ Facebook fan page posted a translation of all the members’ farewell letters, including Lee’s message to the rest of the cast.
“Kwangsoo ah, who do I tease now…who will cheat and betray now…who do I spend the whole night talking to,” Haha wrote.
Another original cast member, Yoo Jae-suk jokingly added, “I don’t know whose sentences I can interrupt or be piggy-backed by…It will be empty and hard without you…”.
The newer cast members were also saddened and wrote that they were grateful for the time spent together and that they would miss him.
Lee also wrote a message to his castmates, thanking them for being his other family.
“I wasn’t always great in the past 11 years, but I always did my best. Running Man is a show where everyone without exception does their best and throws their whole bodies into filming. I ask that people continue to show it more love and interest in future.”
Production staff also put forward their messages on social media, sharing their fond memories with him.
According to The Straits Times, former producer-director Lee Hwan-jin noted how Lee continued filming even in tough circumstances—tearing off name tags with a broken pinky toe and even getting soaked with water in the middle of winter while suffering from a cold.

“From what I remember, Kwang-soo never once told the producers ‘no’.”
Another former producer-director, Jung Chul-min, highlighted how Lee would always think about the programme and his career rather than himself and “showed such professionalism”.
Seems like he even had fans inside of the show!
Hopefully, he’ll be back once in a while to surprise his fans. He will be dearly missed by viewers all around the world.
