Local actor Ryan Lian, 39, has just revealed the scars left behind from a violent attack outside Nex shopping mall in Serangoon on 22 November.
The Ah Boys to Men 4 actor was slashed in the face three times by a 21-year-old assailant, Aaron Samuel Yukon, in an incident that left him hospitalised for several days.
Lian, who shared photos of his injuries on Instagram and Facebook on 5 December, underwent a three-hour operation and received numerous stitches to close the wounds. Doctors have warned that the scars, located on his chin, near his eyebrow, and beside his lip, are likely permanent.

He wrote in his Instagram post, “Put a smile on your face. Why do I suddenly feel like the Joker?” referring to the iconic comic book villain known for his facial scars.

Lian has mentioned that he might explore behind-the-scenes work in the entertainment industry if his scarring hinders his on-screen prospects.
Encouragement From Friends and Fans
Lian’s post drew an outpouring of support from fans and colleagues alike.
Fellow Ah Boys to Men co-star Maxi Lim lightened the mood by joking that Lian now resembled a Muay Thai fighter with “a story to tell.” Lim also shared practical advice, adding in a new comment, recommending oils such as tea tree and tamanu to help with healing.
Radio deejay Kunhua reassured Lian that brighter days were ahead, while comedienne Patricia Mok encouraged patience and positivity during his recovery.
Followers commended Lian for his resilience, urging him not to give up on his acting career despite the incident.

Attacker Charged and Awaiting Trial
Aaron Samuel Yukon, Lian’s assailant, has been charged with voluntarily causing hurt by a dangerous weapon. Court documents revealed that Yukon used a knife to inflict multiple lacerations on Lian’s face.
He was offered bail of S$15,000 on 29 November, with his mother acting as bailor. The motive of the attack remains unclear.
Yukon is set to appear in court again on 3 January 2025. If convicted, he faces up to seven years in jail, caning, a fine, or a combination of these penalties.
