You’ve probably heard about Ryan Lian’s slashing incident.
But fret not; according to Shin Min Daily News, the 39-year-old Ryan Lian is on the mend after being attacked with a knife outside NEX shopping mall in Serangoon on 22 November 2024.
The incident occurred around 6 PM at the mall’s taxi stand, leaving Lian with multiple facial wounds.
The alleged assailant, Aaron Samuel Yukon, 21, was charged the following day with voluntarily causing hurt using a dangerous weapon.
Yukon is currently held at Woodlands Police Station and will appear in court on 29 November 2024.
How Ryan Lian’s Recovery is Like
Lian sustained severe lacerations to his eyebrow bone, eye area, and chin, necessitating a three-hour operation.
Fortunately, his eyesight was unaffected, though the exact number of stitches required remains unknown.
His close friend who visited him in the hospital, remarked that the injuries were deeply distressing. “As an actor, his appearance is crucial to his livelihood,” he said, highlighting a particularly prominent wound near the eyebrow bone.
Despite the ordeal, the friend said that Lian has shown resilience, buoyed by the care of his girlfriend, friends, and colleagues. “He just recovered from a difficult phase (the digital lock incident), and now this happened. But with everyone’s support, he’s staying strong.”
Since being discharged, Lian has returned to working on Longmao Studio, where he works as an actor, scriptwriter, and director.
They are slated to shoot a short video on 29 November.
It remains uncertain if Lian will step in front of the camera again.
Online Backlash and Lian’s Response
While Lian focuses on his recovery and work, he has faced unexpected hostility online.
Negative comments, including one saying “rip Ryan,” prompted Lian to respond publicly on Instagram and Facebook on 26 November. In his post, Lian expressed frustration with insensitive remarks, writing, “I won’t even harm an ant, let alone anyone’s livelihood. Why would they want to destroy me?”
The actor refrained from criticizing his attacker in media statements, which he noted made the online backlash even more perplexing. “I thought I was mentally ill and blamed myself. Now I realise that it’s society that is sick,” Lian wrote in Mandarin.
