Ryde Driver That Molested Woman After Offering Her A Ride Home Faces 16 Months’ Jail and Caning

Sometimes, people can be good samaritans.

When they see someone in a pickle, they’ll extend a hand without expecting anything in return.

However, there are also times where people mask their intentions as good, only to commit heinous acts after.

Unfortunately, we have a case of the latter today.

Ryde Driver That Molest Woman After Offering Her Ride Home Faces At least 18 Months’ Jail and Caning

It was recently reported that Muhammad Fithri Bajudi, 36, was given 16 months’ jail and three strokes of the cane on 8 March, Monday.

The Ryde driver pleaded guilty to one count of outrage of modesty.

He allegedly committed the crime in June 2019, when outside the Novotel hotel in Clarke Quay at about 4.30am waiting for passengers,

It was around that time he spotted the victim, a 39-year-old woman.

She had drinking since 3am and was waiting for a Grab car to go home after vomiting.

A man approached soon after and begin making advances on her, with Fithri noticing she was not sober.

Pretended to Help

The Ryde driver took this moment to commit the crime.

Fithri called out to the woman from his van, eventually alighting and offering to take her home while masquerading as a Grab driver.

She agreed and he helped her to her van, where she fell asleep in the rear seat.

However, he drove her to a carpark instead of her home and begin unzipping the woman’s hoodie to molest her around 5am.

When she woke up, she started yelling at him to stop and that she wanted to go home.

“You are supposed to take care of me, you are supposed to take care of me.”

After about 20 minutes, Fithri saw that the victim was trying to escape and he stopped molesting her. He put her clothes back on and drove to a bus stop where she alighted.

She took a photo of the van and called her husband to tell him about the incident. Her husband then made a police report.

The women went to the hospital distressed and sobbing intermittently.

Punishment Could Have Been Worse

While 16 months of jail and caning is bad, the sentencing was almost worse.

A deputy public prosecutor initially asked for 18 months of jail along with the three strokes of caning.

He cited things such as the intense sexual outrage as well as lying about being a Grab driver as reasons.

Fithri’s lawyers defence of his supposed ‘charitable nature’ was also countered, with the judge saying Fithri approached knowing he wanted to molest her.

He could have been jailed for up to two years, fined, caned, or both for outrage of modesty.
