It was a long and tiring day for Transport Minister S. Iswaran.
On 18 July 2023, Mr Iswaran was spotted for the first time in public by reporters, going into the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau’s (CPIB) headquarters.
He was spotted 10 hours later leaving CPIB headquarters. Both times in different cars.
S. Iswaran in CPIB HQ for 10 Hours, Coming in a Mazda & Going Off in an Audi
According to reports, Mr Iswaran was spotted entering the CPIB headquarters at about 10.50am on Tuesday, 18 July 2023.
He had arrived in a grey Mazda 6 dressed in a light blue shirt and dark pants.
It was only about 10 hours later, at around 8.48pm, that Mr Iswaran was spotted leaving the CPIB HQ.
This time, he was picked up by an Audi sports car.
Mr Iswaran was not accompanied by anyone during his visit to CPIB HQ.
CPIB Reveals S. Iswaran Was Actually Arrested on Tuesday & Now Out on Bail
Initially, it was reported that Transport Minister S. Iswaran was assisting the CPIB with an anti-graft investigation.
He was placed on a leave of absence by the prime minister (aka his boss). During Minister Iswaran’s leave of absence, he would not be allowed to leave Singapore.
At the same time, Minister S. Iswaran will also not be allowed to access official resources and government buildings, the PMO added in response to media inquiries.
It was later revealed that Mr Iswaran was arrested on 11 July 2023. He is currently out on bail and his passport has been impounded.
Not much details on the investigations has been revealed yet.
Meanwhile, hotelier and billionaire Ong Beng Seng, one of the first to be named in the investigation, has also returned to Singapore after being granted permission to travel to Bali.
His private jet touched down at Seletar airport on 17 July and he was whisked away in a black Audi sedan.
Presidential Hopeful Tharman Shanmugaratnam Weighs in on Iswaran CPIB Probe
Presidential hopeful Tharman Shanmugaratnam has also weighed in on the matter.
“It’s not the end of his life or end of his future. He will go through with this. But let the investigation take its course, and let us not make judgments at this point. The system works and it must work.”
The presidential hopeful also had this to say: “Singapore goes through ups and downs. Each time we hit a difficult patch, the good thing about Singapore is that we’ll make our way out of it. It will strengthen our system and we will become a better place.”
For a moment there, it felt like the President was already speaking.
