Well, that’s exactly what happened during this year’s SAF Day Parade rehearsals and a clip of it went viral.

On 2 July 2023, @mindefsg posted an 11-second clip on TikTok to showcase the real heroes behind the SAF Day Parade rehearsals.

And no, it’s not the sergeant major who awes people with his lung capacity.

It’s the folks who look like they belong to the Pikachu platoon.

Armed with a canister of water and a sprayer, watering fellow solders like they’re plants.

A female soldier could be seen thanking the serviceman for his refreshing service.

Over 350K Views & Many Comments

If family gatherings are any indicators, you know that people are generally responsive to things that are soldier-related.

I could hear my uncle bragging about how NS days in his time was so different, last time was for tough men!

Well, this time, it’s not any different.

As of the time of writing, the video has 359.4K views, the highest-viewed video yet in @mindefsg uploads.

The video also garnered over 800 comments, with many exclaiming how these unsung heroes resemble gardeners.

But while we’re mostly willing to let things slide at home, it seems netizens aren’t that nice.

About SAF Day Parade 2023

For individuals wondering why the parade isn’t held in the evening where it’s less warm, it was.

On 1 July 2023, the SAF Day Parade was held in the evening at SAFTI MI.

The event was attended by Singapore President Mdm Halimah Yacob and Defence Minister Dr Ng Eng Hen.

Other attendees include Senior Ministers of State for Defence Mr Heng Chee How and Mr Zaqy Mohamad, the Chiefs of Army, Navy, Air Force, and the DIS, as well as other senior officials from MINDEF and the SAF.
