13 Military Dogs Up for Adoption & Some Are HDB-Approved

Unless there’s a cold, black stone where your heart should be, you’re probably a fan of dogs.

Unlike humans, dogs love you unconditionally, never let you down, and always cuddle with you when you’re crying about your breakup at 3am in the morning.

Reader: That last one was oddly specific

It’s just one of the things I heard from a fellow dog owner.

If you feel like your home could use a cuddly, canine presence and are looking to adopt a dog, I have some good news for you.

13 Military Dogs Up for Adoption & Some Are HDB-Approved

The Singapore Armed Forces Military Working Dog Unit has put up 13 military dogs for adoption in its annual adoption drive.

The now-retired dogs have worked hard all their lives, and are now looking for a forever home.

The Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) provided details of the drive in a Facebook post yesterday (27 Sep).

So, who are these doggos and what are they like?

Roy, 11, Malinois, Male

Roy is an 11-year-old Malinois, which belongs to the Belgian Shepherd family. He may be shy and timid at first, but once he gets comfortable with you, he will show you his affectionate side.

Rockey, 9, Malinois, Male

This doggo needs some time to warm up to people too, but once he does, there’s no stopping him!

He’s also hyperactive and loves to have fun!

Kimbo, 10, Malinois, Male

Kimbo may look fierce, but just like all dogs, he has a heart of gold. He’s also incredibly loyal, highly intelligent, and very curious.

Gino, 10, Malinois, Male

Just like all Singaporeans, Gino loves his food, and always takes the time to savour his meals.

Give this guy a tasty treat and he’ll do anything for you!

Dunya, 10, Malinois, Female

An obedient girl with lots of love to give, Dunya will shower you with affection as she gets attached to people easily.

Dan, 11 Male, Malinois

Always looking to please his handler, Dan loves nothing more than to play a game of fetch with a tennis ball.

Igi, 10, Male, German Shepherd

This German Shepherd is proud, haughty and aloof, and is totally cool with doing his own thing when you’re busy with work.

He does love a good, long walk, though.

Jersey, 9, Male, German Shepherd

Just like most of our dads, Jersey can fall asleep almost anywhere. She is a sweet and docile dog that will need some encouragement to complete his walks and exercises.

But then again, don’t we all?

Zeus, 10, Male, German Shepherd

A good boy who’s always jolly, Zeus loves pats and cuddles, and is also friendly. His puppy-dog eyes are sure to melt the hearts of any human that looks in his direction.

Banjo, 8, Male, Labrador Retriever

Banjo has a big heart and an even bigger personality! He can be excitable at times, but is also the perfect companion for a slow, relaxing walk.

The best thing about Banjo? He’s HDB-approved!

Digger, 10, Male, Labrador Retriever

Digger is warm and friendly, and loves a game of fetch. He also loves his food, so you know he’ll always be by your side at mealtimes.

Digger is HDB-approved as well.

Salsa, 9, Female, Labrador Retriever

If you’re looking for an obedient and affectionate dog, Salsa is the canine for you. She may look like she can handle herself, but the poor doggo gets frightened by thunder, so remember to keep her close during storms.

Salsa is also HDB-approved.

Thor, 8, Male, Labrador Retriever

His name might scare you, but Thor is a calm and chill doggo. He’s not a big fan of baths, though, so be prepared for some difficulties there, but his sweet and gentle manner should more than make up for it.

And yes, Thor is HDB-approved too.

“So if you have space in your home and in your heart, do consider opening your doors to one of these lovable and loyal dogs and be the new family that they need,” Mindef said in its post.
