Change is always annoying at first.
However, we soon adapt to change as it becomes a part of our daily lives.
And one of those thing’s that’s now an everyday occurrence is Safe-Entry.
We’re no strangers to having to scan QR codes to enter places since we have to do so to go anywhere.
And that includes every individual shop in a mall, leaving us with many “unchecked-out” places as we left the mall (or worse, when we’re at home).
But eventually, this soon will be phased out thanks to our other “best friend”: TraceTogether.
When TraceTogether-SafeEntry is Implemented, You Won’t Need to Safe-Entry At Each Shop in a Mall
That is, once the TraceTogether-only Safe Entry begins.
A written parliamentary reply on 1 Feb noted that only one check-in is needed from TraceTogether in a mall once TraceTogether-only Safe Entry is implemented, The Straits Times reported.
Which means you don’t need to see five SafeEntry tabs for different clothing stores in your browser now.
All you would need is that initial TraceTogether check-in when entering the mall.
For now, TraceTogether check-in still isn’t mandatory.
Senior Minister Teo Chee Hean said that TraceTogether safe entry would help reduce public inconveniences.
Places With Exceptions
However, while this would apply to most places, there will be exceptions.
Namely, at places where the risk of COVID-19 transmission is higher such as F&B outlets or gyms.
Even if you’ve checked in before, you still need to do so at the mentioned places.
A reason given was that in such areas, people are pretty close to each other while masks are removed.
The Smart Nation and Digital Government Office said TraceTogether-only Safe Entry will be implemented once everyone has collected their TraceTogether tokens.
Which might be sooner than we think, considering that 80 per cent of the nation either has a token or has downloaded the app.
Once implemented, Safe-Entry through QR codes, Singpass Mobile App or IC scanning will be void.
So far, the government estimates more than half of the 40,000 public venues with Safe-Entry are ready to transition.
Most have started accepting TraceTogether token check-ins, too.
Which, if you need more info on how the token or app works, can check out our video below (and subscribe to our YouTube channel for more informative videos, too!):
Helping Transition Process For Businesses
The Government also aims to help businesses have a smooth transition to TraceTogether.
For those unaware, there is actually a SafeEntry Business app.
Safe-distancing ambassadors will teach these businesses how to use the app to scan TraceTogether tokens for check-ins.
Needless to say, those that only have scanners that can read ID barcodes need to use the app or get scanners that can read QR codes.
TraceTogether data that is older than 25 days will automatically be deleted.
The Ministry of Health will also not request for the information unless a user comes down with COVID-19.
Or if you’re a hardcore criminal.
And if you know anybody that needs to get a token, a reminder that you can now collect them at any of the 108 Community Centres.
