At a time when COVID-19 is having a field day in the community, there’s no place in the country, except one’s home, where you can let your guard down.
COVID-19 clusters have popped up all over the place from the airport and hospitals to tuition centres and prisons.
To prevent the disease from spreading further, the authorities recently tightened COVID-19 measures, including limiting social gatherings to two people and banning dining-out.
Now, the centres where residents have been getting inoculated against COVID-19 are also putting safety measures in place.
Safety Measures Increase in COVID-19 Vaccination Centre Due to Rising Community Cases
Some vaccination centres have ramped up their safety measures recently in response to the COVID-19 outbreak in the community.
At the vaccination centre at Toa Payoh West Community Club, for instance, residents are now asked during registration if they’ve visited Changi Airport recently, according to ST.
Visitors accompanying vaccine recipients now also have to wait outside while their friend or family member is in the observation area after vaccination.
ST found that several other vaccination centres had stepped up their safety measures.
At the Kebun Baru Community Club, Raffles Medical staff now wear face shields over their face masks, something they had not done previously.
And to prevent crowds, those who turn up early for their vaccination will be asked to move to a waiting area, instead of queuing up as they did before.
Those who just received their shot will also be moved to the waiting area for their 30-minute observation period.
Raffles Medical Group said it is progressively rolling out table shields for their respective registration and discharge stations in the centres as well.
Other vaccination centres, such as the ones at Yew Tee Community Club and Senja-Cashew Community Club, also gave out free face masks to vaccine recipients.
How Does Singapore’s Vaccination Progress Compare with Other Countries?
As of 17 May, 3,407,068 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to residents in Singapore.
When considering vaccine doses administered per hundred residents, Singapore’s tally stands at 58.2
The country with the highest tally in Asia is Maldives, with 83.6.
No one can beat Israel, however, who currently have the highest tally not just in the Middle East but in the world, with 121.7 doses administered per hundred of its residents.
The countries with the lowest tally include Taiwan (1.0), Armenia (0.7), and Papua New Guinea (0.1).
According to an Ipsos poll, people in France, South Africa, and Russia are among the most reluctant groups to get vaccinated.
