PPP Candidate Samuel Lee Announces Departure from Opposition Party

In a social media announcement, Lee revealed he had resigned on 23 May 2025, and described it as his first step post-GE 2025.

The former PPP member accompanied his Facebook post with a 20-second TikTok audio clip confirming the decision. He said he was stepping down to “pursue new opportunities” while continuing his activism and advocacy work.

“I am grateful for the lessons learnt and wish PPP well in its future,” Lee said in his resignation statement. He affirmed his commitment to continue “advocating for a better Singapore” despite leaving the party.

Lee has previously appeared in a TikTok advertisement for an interior design company. In the commercial, he sang about “looking left and right” while searching for a trustworthy interior designer.

Viral Campaign Song and Road Rage Controversy Mark Political Journey

Lee shot to internet fame during the GE2025 campaign period with his adapted version of the Mandarin-language song I’m Just A Tiny Tiny Bird.

He performed the remix during a Nomination Day interview, singing: “I look left, look right, for a career path, is this a request considered too high?”

The moment went viral instantly across social media platforms. Netizens created countless memes and used the catchy clip in TikTok and Instagram videos.

The song became popularly known as the “look left look right” song on social media.

However, Lee’s public profile was also marred by legal troubles earlier in 2025. In April, he was involved in a road rage incident near Victory Family Centre along Lorong 4 Toa Payoh.

While driving his red Mercedes, Lee failed to give way to a food delivery rider on an e-bike. The situation escalated when he reversed and then accelerated toward the rider, ultimately crashing into a metal gate.

He was sentenced to six weeks in jail, and his driver’s licence was revoked for six months as part of the punishment.

Lee later addressed the media about the road rage case and issued a public apology with a bow.

PPP chairman Derrick Sim responded to the incident, stating: “The Party believes strongly in rehabilitation and second chances.”
