If you had kept up with the news, you would have known that there was an accident that occurred between two buses on the morning of 11 May 2018 along Jalan Jurong Kechil near Bukit Batok.
If you didn’t know about this or would like a recap of the incident, here’s what happened.
Didn’t Brake In Time
A 65-year-old SBS driver was travelling towards a bus stop when he couldn’t brake in time and collided with an SMRT bus in front of it.
In photos taken by witnesses and reporters, the SBS bus was shown to have mounted the kerb and its windshield was so destroyed that it was practically gone.
It was clear that the accident was quite bad.
Personnel took quite a long time just to clear the debris of the accident away.
Injuries & Even A Miscarriage
It was later reported that 34 people were injured as a result of the crash.
Out of the 34 people, one lady suffered an unfortunate miscarriage while two elderly passengers aged 64 and 89 years old suffered spinal fractures.
The lady had sustained relatively light injuries and her abdomen was not hurt physically. However, a doctor suspected that the stress of being in the accident caused her miscarriage.
CNAÂ reported that at least 7 of the 34 people who were sent to the hospital had to be warded.
Thankfully, the injuries of the two elderly passengers were later confirmed to not be permanent.
SBS Driver Jailed
The SBS driver had only worked for SBS for three months before the accident happened, and immediately after it happened, he was fired from his position.
According to Lianhe Wanbao, he had been driving for more than 20 years and had never gotten into an accident.
After causing this accident, he said that he will live with lifelong guilt.
Two charges were made against him, namely reckless driving leading to hurt as well as reckless driving leading to grievous hurt.
On 22 July 2020, he was convicted and sentenced to four weeks in jail. He has also been disqualified from driving any vehicle for the next three years.
Other Bus Accidents
Recently, a bus driver in China was reportedly unhappy with the government for destroying his house under a town expansion plan despite him having ownership over his house.
As a means of taking revenge on society, he went to work and drove a bus filled with passengers into the reservoir.
None of them survived.
In January of this year, an SBS Transit bus, lorry, and car got into an accident at the junction of Braddell Road and Bishan Road.
Two passengers – a male lorry passenger and a female bus passenger – were taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
The 23-year-old Indian national lorry driver was later arrested for dangerous driving.
