For ages, absolutely no one pleaded for a Pokemon x Yu-Gi-Oh x Mission Impossible concept.
“It would be overly taxing on Tom Cruise,” they reasoned. “What’s with having to scale tall buildings, collect Pokemon and duel other players all at the same time.”
But it seems that nothing’s impossible in 28-year-old Kensuke Nakanishi’s books…
A notion that has since led him to fulfil the concept in Tom’s stead.
It should be noted, however, that the reason leaves a lot more to be desired than the film star’s usual heroics.
Man Scaled 6 Storey Building with only a Rope to Steal Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh! Cards
According to Japanese daily Mainichi, Nakanishi had reportedly broken into a six-storey building from the exterior, with nothing but a rather tight rope.
His objects of affection? An array of Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh! cards.
For the record, these cards aren’t your usual run-off-the-mill fare from the local mama shop, but valuable pieces that are reportedly worth some one million yen (SGD12,163).
And yet, the sheer value of these paper cards still pales in comparison to what Nakanishi had to do to infiltrate the building.
According to the news report, Nakanishi had gone to the rooftop, where he attached a rope to a railing.
He then let it hang down over the edge.
The 28-year-old subsequently began his descend, going down five metres with just a rope and zero safety harnesses.
When he reached his destination, he used a tool to infiltrate the store’s window.
Apart from the cards, he also nabbed a cool 260,000 yen (SGD3,162).
The incident reportedly occurred at around 5:00 a.m. on 23 March in the Higashi-Ikebukuro neighbourhood.
Rock Climber
It would have been the perfect crime too, had Nakanishi not slipped up and neglected security cameras near the store.
He later admitted to the suspicions.
According to the 28-year-old, he had undertaken such a big risk not to become a Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh master, but to clear his debt.
Though with that said, the height certainly did not seem to affect him.
“I was in the rock climbing club in high school,” he reportedly said. “So I wasn’t afraid of heights.”
Not The First
Incredibly, this is not the first time that someone has gone to great lengths to secure game cards.
Just last year, a Polk County firefighter reportedly stole $165 worth of Pokemon cards at a nearby Walmart.
He was spotted switching bar codes on the cards, and had intended to “flip” the cards for extra profits.
Like Nakanishi, he had committed the deed because of financial difficulties.
Well, it seems that in the face of adversity, we all turn into Team Rocket.
The next thing you know, someone’s gonna start cutting off the tails of slowpokes.
