Usually, safe distancing ambassadors, also known as SDAs, are the ones approaching people.
Whether it’s for legitimate reasons, questionable reasons or downright illegitimate reasons, SDAs have certainly done their parts.
But it seems that in one recent instance, the SDA was actually the one being confronted.

Man Recorded Himself Confronting SDA For Not Doing Her Job Right
On 11 September 2021, Youtube channel Singapore Incidents posted an eye-opening 1:32 clip, where a female SDA was challenged for her supposed failure to catch an unmasked individual.
The incident reportedly occurred in Kallang Wave Mall.
In the video, the said SDA could be seen being confronted by a so-called “public-spirited bystander” who continuously challenged her.
She had allegedly failed to notice an unmasked man in the vicinity despite her role-assigned obligations.
At the start, the SDA stated that she had been making a report, and as such had failed to notice the unmasked individual.
The “public-spirited bystander”, who was also the cameraman, then challenged:
“So basically you are telling me that if you are making a report, then if someone is not following safe management measures, is not your responsibility?”
The SDA subsequently replied: “It’s still my responsibility, it’s equally important, sir.”

Thereafter, the cameraman stated that she had not been observant, to which she replied that she did not have eyes behind her.
The former then insisted that the unmasked individual had walked by her side.
It was at this point that the SDA said, the maskless man was already leaving the area by then.
Cornering The SDA
As you may have expected of a so-called “public-spirited bystander”, he did not let the chance slip.
Stating that he was confused by her seeming rapid changes in her stance, he added that the maskless man had actually been in the mall for quite some time.

The SDA then reiterated that she was not aware of it, before attempting to block off the camera.
“Sir, please do not record me,” she said. “I know you are recording.”
“Yes, because you are not doing your work,” the cameraman replied.
The SDA then said that she was going to disengage from the conversation, but not before the cameraman issued a final challenge, stating that she needed a “public-spirited bystander” to remind her that someone did not have a mask on.
He then added that he was going to “lodge a report” against her.

Netizens React
To date, the video has drawn over 20K views, with 79 likes to 140 dislikes.
Many Netizens have also disapproved of the man’s actions, with one wondering whether he’s “public-spirited” or just a “public nuisance.”
Another also called him the male version of a Karen.
“Just like another Karen,” the Netizen wrote. “Just that this time is a man WTF.”

Some, however, stated that such incidents, where SDAs have let maskless individuals go, do occur.
“I’ve seen so many of these incidents where the SDA were chatting and people without mask walk by…” the Netizen wrote.
Meanwhile, Enterprise Singapore, which is responsible for the deployment of SDAs in malls, has confirmed the incident.
Investigations are currently ongoing.
