Nurse Living in Sengkang Granted Protection Order from Neighbours Who Had Sprayed Disinfectant at Them

It is undeniable that the frontliners, especially the doctors and the nurses, have put their own lives on the line to save others during the pandemic.

This is why they deserve every bit of respect we give, whether it is by clapping for them or singing “Home” together our fellow countrymen and women in a massive sing-along.

However, it does seem like some people still didn’t get the memo.

Neighbours Harassing Sengkang Nurse and His Family For an Entire Year

On 18 May of last year, Sengkang General Hospital put up a Facebook post pointing out the harassment one of its nurses have suffered by his neighbours and called for medical personnel to be treated with respect.

This is in response to a series of viral videos that were posted on the nurse’s own Facebook account, showing the various forms of harassment he and his family were subjected to from his neighbours.

The nurse, Muhammad Najib bin Ngasewan, was called a variety of colourful vulgarities by neighbours, Lim Sok Lay and her husband, Cheang Eng Hock.

The neighbours even splashed soapy water along the shared common corridor, making it dangerous to walk around the place.

What’s worse is that they didn’t stop harassing him either.

The neighbours were also seen spraying disinfectant at Najib and his family.

Once, the disinfectant landed on his young daughter’s face.

Thankfully, it didn’t get into her eyes though it did cause her some trauma.

It was this very incident that drove Najib to finally lodge a police report.

However, despite the ongoing court case, his neighbours allegedly continued with the harassment, as shared by Najib on an Instagram post on 16 July.

They are persistent, I’ll grant them that!

Getting Protection from Harassment Court

Enough is enough for Najib.

It’s not like his job isn’t stressful enough, and to return home to harassment from his inconsiderate neighbours makes his (and his family’s) life even more stressful.

He decided to request Protection from the Harassment Court.

As of 16 July, Najib obtained an expedited protection order (EPO) against both his neighbours.

FYI, EPO is granted by the courts when urgent intervention is needed.

This order prevents his neighbours from:

  1. Using vulgarities, profanities or any threatening, abusive or insulting words towards Najib or his family
  2. Observing them from a distance or through the use of video recording devices
  3. Approaching or accosting Najib or his family
  4. Make loud retching noise or other similar sounds to cause harassment
  5. Spraying disinfectant liquid or any other substance towards them
  6. Splashing soapy or dirty water towards Najib’s home
  7. Stalking Najib or visiting his workplace to cause harassment
