I‘ll say it here and now.
Pokemon GO, never tried it.
Pokemon White was the last I saw of my childhood, and soon the student life took over and there was little time for such joy.
As a child, I remember being an avid card and figurine collector. It came to a point where my house had little space for all else and my father began to throw them away one by one.
When everyone and (literally) their grandmothers are talking about Pokemon GO, I simply couldn’t get back into it, having to recover from letting that part of my childhood go.
Whilst I had tried my best, a new wave of nostalgia hit me when I saw the headline:
Pokemon GO Safari Zone @ Sentosa
And Trainers… prepare yourself.
Safari Zone @ Sentosa
Safari Zone Sentosa is a five-day long event taking place in Sentosa, Singapore from 18 to 22 April 2019.
Finding its home in Singapore, never-before-seen pokémon will also be available for trainers to catch, such as the region-specific Tropius, shiny Shuckle, Unown and many more.
And in case you didn’t know, the Safari Game was first mentioned in the OG games in Generations I and II.
Safari Zone
According to Bulbapedia,
In the Safari Zone, when a wild Pokémon appears, trainers cannot send out Pokémon to battle it. Instead, Trainers must face Pokémon only with simple tools, and catching a Pokémon becomes much more reliant on luck, as Pokémon are able to run away from the Trainer at any time.
Trainers may throw Bait to make a Pokémon less likely to run, but this also makes it harder to catch. Conversely, throwing Rocks will make a Pokémon easier to catch but more likely to run.
Pokemon GO is on a roll, blending both authenticity and keeping up with their modern audience.
Basically, prepare to see some real exclusive Pokemon when you head down to Sentosa in mid-April.
There will also be multiple Pokéstops for players to stock up on necessary supplies for their Safari Zone adventure.
Key Information
Here is how you can register to take part:
- Head to safarizone.sentosa.com.sg to register your interest, from 5 to 7 March 2019.
- Bid for your place as an individual or in a group of three. Over 100,000 places will be available across the five-day event, and a ballot will be held to select the winning participants.
- Selected trainers will be notified by March 11, 2019, and will receive a QR code on a later date that will serve as a ticket to the event.
For Those Without Tickets
If you did not receive a ticket to the Pokémon GO Safari Zone in Sentosa, don’t worry too much, as while you may miss out on some spawns and exclusive PokéStops of the event, the overall area will see a change in spawns and will be a good event even for those outside the location.
Additionally, worldwide spawns typically have added in a shiny possible Pokémon, such as Psyduck, Wingull, Roselia, Plusle, and Minun, so for those in other parts of the world keep an eye out!
However, the FOMO when everyone catches their region-exclusive Lapras will definitely be felt, so better start registering!
Meanwhile, I’ll continue mourning over my lost card collections and whatnot.
