Resident in Serangoon HDB Flat Plans to Move Out Due to Neighbour’s Dog Smell

According to Shin Min Daily News, the woman, who lives in a corner unit with her daughter, has been facing this issue since January 2024.

She reportedly spends nearly $100 monthly on air fresheners and citronella spray to combat the smell.

“I can’t even open my doors for ventilation,” she said, who underwent heart surgery in February and April. “The smell makes me anxious, but I can’t keep my doors closed all the time.”

She has bought three to four air diffusers and spent over $1,000 on deodorizing products, including fabric softeners to clean her doorway area.

She even burns lemons and spices near her entrance.

It has got so bad that she intends to move out.

What The Neighbour Said

The dog owner, a 62-year-old retiree, said that the authorities have inspected the situation and found no issues. “If many people complained, I would believe there’s a problem and try to improve. But only one neighbour has complained,” she said.

A tenant living in the neighbour unit told Shin Min Daily News’ reporters the dog stays at another location during the neighbour’s work hours. The tenant added that while the pet has some odour, it isn’t unbearable.

Another resident, also in her 60s, living on the third floor, reported smelling the odour in the elevator and when wind blows from the unit above. She mentioned the smell gets stronger when dog supplies are hung out to dry.

The Town Council confirmed they received feedback about the situation and are working with the parties involved.
