Disagreements between neighbours who live in tightly packed places are a dime a dozen.
This is why you can just stop any S’porean person on the street and chances are they would have at least one “neighbours from hell” story that they can share.
Well, besides those involving bodily harm, I think this is probably one of the more “haiyyooo” neighbours-from-hell stories around.
Caught Red-Handed by the CCTV
Posting the CCTV footage of her front door on the Facebook page, Complaint Singapore, Leiralala Hime, who lives in an Upper Serangoon condo unit, revealed that her neighbour intentionally stepped on the parcel that was left on her doorstep.
In the footage, he exited his house, slipped on his slippers, and immediately spotted the parcel.
He then stepped on the parcel with his right foot, before heading to call what seems to be a lift.
Oddly enough, before the iconic “ding”, the man walked back to his unit and entered the house.
What for, though?
Well, she has a theory and it involves her previous disputes with the same neighbour over the years.
Weird Behaviours from a Weird Neighbour
Apparently, this isn’t the first time Leiralala Hime’s neighbour acted in such a weird and inconsiderate way.
During her interview with MS News, she revealed that the man had once left a mess of shoes and slippers right in front of her door.
When confronted about it, the neighbour claimed that the space in front of her door where the footwear was located is also their space, and that he can put his shoes anywhere he wants.
Even when she complained about the issue to the building management, they “didn’t do much” she said.
In another incident, she hung a cute signboard on her front door, indicating that she owns a cat.
The sign isn’t intruding in any shared space, but for some reason, this ticked off her neighbour…
…enough to make him ripped the signboard off her door and chucked it into the common rubbish chute.
She also confronted the man regarding this incident and he said that she didn’t have video evidence that he actually did the deed and hence, she cannot accuse him of throwing away her sign.
As a result, Ms Hime decided to install a CCTV in front of her unit.
Treating The Dry Riser Cabinet as Their Personal Storeroom
That’s not all, her neighbour also did something that’s actually hazardous to the people in the condo.
According to Ms Hime, they also allegedly left old newspapers and books in the dry riser cabinet – the one that houses the fire hose reel, treating the cabinet like their own storeroom.
As you may already know, blocking the fire hose reel can be incredibly dangerous as the obstacles may slow down the firefighters’ effort to put out a fire quickly.
In these situations, every second count after all.
Plus, there might be an unnecessary loss of lives as a result.
This is why Ms Hime reported the issue to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).
The SCDF came and cleaned out the cabinet, but Ms Hime didn’t know if they also talked to or imposed a fine on her inconsiderate neighbour.
Ms Hime also claimed that the neighbour’s kid even left torn-up books and other trash on the common table right next to the pool.
Why Post the CCTV Footage on Facebook?
When asked, Ms Hime admitted that she has been “very nice and tolerant already” since she hasn’t reported the neighbour to the police, but she’s truly at wit’s end.
With nowhere else to turn to, she thought that she could share her experience with the internet by posting the CCTV footage on a Facebook page that’s set up solely for people to “vent their anger and unhappiness, share bad experiences in Singapore and most importantly, COMPLAINT”.
And you’d thought living in HDB is bad enough – there are hellish neighbours everywhere, even in seemingly higher-end condos too!
