Shipments of the Covid-19 vaccine arrived last month, but more than 113,000 people have already been vaccinated.
A few days ago, the Ministry of Health(MOH) announced that of those vaccinated, 432 “adverse event reports” have been received by the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) from healthcare professionals.
These included injection site pain and swelling, fever, headache, fatigue, body aches, giddiness, nausea and allergic reactions such as itch, rash, and swelling of eyes or lip.
MOH said these adverse effects aren’t uncommon with vaccines and mostly resolved on their own within a few days.
However, one woman claims she was hospitalised for 5 days after getting immunised.
Woman Claims She Was Hospitalised for 5 Days After Taking COVID-19 Vaccine
A woman on Facebook claimed she was hospitalised for 5 days at Singapore General Hospital (SGH) after receiving a Covid-19 vaccine.
The woman aired her grievances in the comment section of what appears to be a Facebook post by MOH.
After getting the vaccine, the woman said she’s been suffering from weakness in her legs and dizziness, both of which haven’t resolved after five days.
Once she was hospitalised, she said several doctors visited her to treat her ailments but could not offer a diagnosis.
Curiously, the woman doesn’t have a history of allergic reactions to medication.
Who Bears the Costs?
The woman said she asked the hospital about the financial obligations of all the medical tests she’s had to undergo, but no one has gotten back to her yet.
“It’s 5am now and I’ve had to wake up to do more blood tests as per other days”, the woman said.
“How do I apply for the New Vaccine Injury Financial Assistance Programme for Covid-19, may I ask?”
For the unacquainted, this programme provides financial assistance to Singapore residents (citizens, PRs and long-term residents) should they suffer a fatal or life-threatening side effect after receiving the vaccine here.

SGH Responds
A couple of days later, SGH responded to the woman’s comments in a Facebook post.
“We are aware of reports that an individual is currently warded at SGH after receiving the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine”, the hospital said.
“Our doctors have conducted multiple tests and so far, there is no evidence that her signs and symptoms are related to the vaccine she received recently.”
The hospital added that it will take a cautious approach and will continue to monitor the woman’s condition and conduct tests if necessary.
