Chinese National Paid $17.6K to Marry a S’porean; Failed to Get PR Twice

You probably think that once a foreigner marries a Singaporean, he or she will get a PR immediately.

That is not true.

Watch this video and you’ll understand:

Because if that is the case, this woman won’t be caught.

Chinese National Paid $17.6K to Marry a S’porean; Failed to Get PR Twice

A 56-year-old Chinese national paid $17,600 to her fake Singaporean husband over four years as part of a sham marriage scheme.

She was sentenced to jail for 6 months and 8 weeks on Friday (26 October).

And no, she is still not a Singapore PR.

The scheme kicked off in 2017 when she met a 66-year-old Singaporean man.

By mid-2019, she pitched the idea of a fake marriage to man, hoping he’d sponsor her visit pass and permanent residency applications.

The pair tied the knot on 27 August 2019, at the Registry of Marriages. No family members showed up for the ceremony.

After exchanging vows, they went their separate ways.

The woman stuck to her end of the deal by paying the man monthly.

From March 2020 to March 2022, she handed over $300 monthly. The amount bumped up to $400 per month between April 2022 and June 2024.

They even set up a beauty salon together, with the man registered as the company director. This business move gave the woman a way to work in Singapore and earn money for the promised payments.

The woman obtained two long-term visit passes between 15 August 2021, and 13 September 2023.

However, her permanent residency applications weren’t approval.

She had tried her luck with PR applications in August 2020 and June 2022, but both were rejected.

Eventually, immigration officers nabbed both of them at their separate homes on 17 July 2024.

In her plea, she claimed ignorance of Singapore laws and expressed remorse. She asked for a lighter sentence, mentioning her elderly mother’s terminal lung cancer back home.

The man’s case is still under investigation.
