Everyone needs a second chance, even celebrities who people sometimes love to hate.
A month ago, actor Shane Pow was sentenced to jail for drink-driving, marking what has been a troubling year for the 29-year-old.
Months before he was imprisoned, Pow was terminated from Mediacorp due to his drink-driving charge, as well as a breach of COVID-19 regulations.
Pow only just got out of prison, but he’s already back in the public eye.
Shane Pow Appears on FB Livestream After He Was Released from Prison
After his release from prison this week, Pow was seen in a Facebook sales livestream on Tuesday night (17 Aug).
The stream was hosted by Mdada, an online commerce platform founded by several local celebs, including Michelle Chia and Pornsak.
Pow has appeared on a Mdada platform before, making his debut selling beauty products in a live stream on 31 May.
With him on the live stream were Pornsak and celebrity hairstylist Addy Lee, who co-founded the platform.
When one viewer welcomed him back, Pow replied in Mandarin, saying: “Thank you everyone! I’ve returned! The sky is sunny after the rain!”
Pornsak also had some kind words for Pow during the livestream, telling viewers: “In the following days, we’ll hand this lovely boy to you Mdada supporters, please treat him well.”
When 8 Days asked Mr Lee a few days ago why they chose to include Pow in their plans despite his misdeeds, he said: “Who hasn’t made mistakes? If someone does something wrong and you don’t give them the chance to change, they’ll always be that way and might become even worse.”
Jailed After Second Drink-Driving Conviction
Pow was sentenced on 14 July to five weeks in jail, after being convicted of drink-driving for a second time.
For his first offence, which occurred in 2014, Pow was fined S$2,300 and disqualified from driving for a year.
But on 17 Sept last year, Pow committed the same offence.
The former Mediacorp actor met up with two friends at an Amoy Street Korean restaurant that night, and consumed about two glasses of beer between 7 pm and 8:30pm.
He left the establishment two hours later, and despite having consumed alcohol, drove his friends home in a van before driving to Bugis to pick up another friend.
On his way home, Pow was stopped along Java Road towards Nicoll Highway at around 11.20pm by a Traffic Police (TP) officer for a routine check.
Reeking of alcohol, the 30-year-old failed a breathalyser test and was then escorted to the TP headquarters in Ubi Avenue 3.
In addition to his jail term, Pow was also fined S$6,000.
