Sharon Au Issued Warning Letter By HR After She Sends French Colleagues Work Emails At 8pm

Alright people. I’m officially moving to France.

Get back here? But why?

Let me tell you a story then. In Singapore, when you work, people always ask you what you doing, but never how you doing.

And in France… I have never been there, but let’s hear from Sharon Au.

In case you forget her English name or don’t know who that is, that’s Ou Jing Xian, and here’s a picture:

Lest you don’t know, she went to further her studies in Japan at 30 years old, and then in March 2018 she migrated to Paris. Which is why we never see her anymore (I think).

But here’s the thing you want to know since you clicked this article:

Said To Be Harassing Colleagues For The Work Email At 8 pm

In her first week of work in Paris, she sent a work email at 8pm.

While that might seem like just ‘noder day in S’pore, that was a huge mistake in France, where this is actually considered a harassment since this is sent outside working hours.

This was referred to the HR and Au’s was only given a little warning.

So, on this law, hear this—a French legislator says the employees who receive work emails after office hoursleave the office, but they do not leave their work. They remain attached by a kind of electronic leash—like a dog.

You saw that right. Dog.

Literally us in the eyes of the French. / Image: Giphy

Makes me want to cry.

And then 3 months later, Au sent a text message to her colleague at 11 pm for a reminder of an important meeting the next day at 8.30 am.

Seems normal…? HAHAHAHA not in France.

Psychological Counselling And Concern By Colleagues

From that small little thing of sending a work text, this turned into a heart to heart talk and counselling by the HR.

This was seen as being a workaholic and having no friends, no life.

HR asked if she had made any friends in her 3 months in France, and even volunteered to help her sign up for Yoga classes.

And from then on, her colleagues even initiated inviting her to lunch, probably assuming that she had social or mental issues.

This even resulted in HR giving her tickets to watch movies and asking her not to download movies, but actually physically going out to the theatres.

I remind you that Au only sent the work messages twice in 3 months (as far as we can tell).

In other words, the whole company thought this was happening:

From just two simple messages.

But the truth is, she was just being Singaporean.

Wait a minute… or are all S’poreans actually depressed…?

*checks history of survey in Goody Feed*

Hahaha… that’s only two surveys, right?

Alright, that’s only from June to Sep 2019. I think I’ll stop searching for more evidence before more tears need to be wiped away.
