It always feels good to be noticed for a job well done.
Whether it comes in the form of bonus pay, being able to get a promotion or even a simple word of thanks.
For those who worked in supermarkets, thank you for putting up with our crazy panic buying last year.
And it seems the Sheng Siong has recognised said efforts from their staff in 2020 as they’re about to hand out some bonuses to their staff.
Sheng Siong Staff Allegedly Getting Up to 15-Month Bonus for Work Done in 2020
It’s been no secret that while many businesses suffered in 2020, Sheng Siong was experiencing several highs.
In the first quarter of last year, their net profit jumped a whopping 49.9% to S$29 million.
This in turn also rewarded their staff with an additional month of salary.
Then, in the third quarter, the supermarket reported another revenue increase by 28.9% to S$327.3 million.
Which is why it warmed many hearts when the following image appeared in a Reddit post on 23 Jan.
The notice said that the company performed extremely well despite the craziness of last year.
“As promised by our Management, all eligible employees are entitled to 20% of our Group’s profit before tax as variable bonus.”
It mentioned that the bonus will be reflected in February’s payout and thanked the staff again at the end.
The post also shows how each one’s pay will be calculated, ranging from part-timers all the way to those at managerial levels.
Netizens Show Their Support
And while the internet loves to spread memes and cats, they also jump in when they see such noble acts.
Comments from both the Reddit page and other sites seemed to generally praise the direction the supermarket took.
One of the top comments described how Sheng Siong have helped their employees.
The comment mentioned that they “gave generous ang pows and bonuses back in the 90s when a friend’s elder sis worked there as part-time cashier in her poly days.”
There were those who also said that this was only natural, given how well they did last year.
However, another said Sheng Siong could have simply kept the profits and not distributed it but did so anyway.
Still, that’s not to say the whole year was perfect.
Especially with regards to the whole eggs with dead embryo chicks case, where a customer bought some rather nasty eggs which eventually got replaced.
However, the new eggs still gave the family stomach issues, including vomiting and diarrhoea.
You can read more about that over here.
