Vaccinated Employee in Sheng Siong at Bukit Batok Tested Positive for COVID-19; Store to Close Until 18 May

Sheng Siong employees might’ve got up to 16 months’ worth of bonuses, but they got it for a reason: they’re essential staff members who are working on the front line as well.

The risk might not seem obvious until one of them is found to have contracted COVID-19.

Vaccinated Employee in Sheng Siong at Bukit Batok Tested Positive for COVID-19; Store to Close Until 18 May

This afternoon, after the shocking announcement that Singapore reported 38 community cases in a single day, Sheng Siong said that one of their employees at the Bukit Batok 440 store (Blk 440 Bukit Batok Ave 8 #01-10 S650440) had tested positive for COVID-19 on 15 May 2021.

The employee has visited the doctor on 15 May 2021 because of fever and flu symptoms. The employee is fully vaccinated, receiving the first dose on 4 March 2021 and second dose on 25 March 2021, and works the night shift replenishing stocks at the grocery department and has minimal contact with customers. The employee was last at work on the evening of 14 May 2021 to the early morning of 15 May 2021.

In accordance with the Ministry of Health’s guidelines, the employee has since been hospitalised and monitored by medical personnel while employees identified as close contacts have been isolated and put on leave of absence, and will be sent for swab tests.

As an added precaution, all employees of the store will be sent for swab tests.

In line with National Environment Agency’s guidelines to disinfect the premises, the store will be closed at 4pm on 16 May 2021 for two days for deep cleaning procedures. Business will resume at 7am on Tuesday, 18 May 2021.

The store also has routine deep cleaning conducted on 1 May and 15 May, which meant it was just deep cleaned yesterday.

Singapore Reports 38 COVID-19 Cases with 18 of the Unlinked Today

As of 12pm today (16 May), the Ministry of Health (MOH) has preliminarily confirmed 49 new cases of COVID-19 infection.

38 are community cases. 20 of them are linked to previous cases, and 18 are unlinked cases.

This brings the total number of cases in Singapore to 61,585.
