Finally, after what seemed like a gruelling 2020, we’re finally in 2021.
And in just about a month, Chinese New Year is about to roll around.
Just don’t forget that, despite being in phase three, there’s still an eight-person visitor limit.
Naturally, just about every physical and online store is going to start advertising their CNY sales.
Which also means Shopee’s back at it again with another song-style sales video.
Shopee’s Various Eye-Catching Advertisements
If you’re a south-east Asian using YouTube, there’s no doubt you’d have come across one of the aforementioned advertisement videos.
Let me show you one that I’m sure you’ve seen at various video ad breaks.
If we had a dollar for every time we’ve seen this ad, we’d all be millionaires by now.
In some of their more recent videos, they’ve also gotten more well known local figures like Phua Chu Kang and Wang Weiliang of Ah Boys To Men fame.
While being annoyed at all of these ads is a common reaction, you can’t deny its effectiveness.
Namely, in getting you to remember the “catchy” tunes and drawing attention to their app.
Which, sure, you might associate it to an annoying song but hey, if it works why stop?
And their new song-advertisement even takes it back with a classic feel.
The Latest Shopee Adv Song is by Ah Niu & This Time, It’s an Acceptable Song
Hearing the name Ah Niu for anyone familiar will immediately take your mind back to one song.
对面的女ĺ©çś‹čż‡ćťĄ.
The song talks about young men trying to get the attention of some girls, only to find out it’s not that easy to understand the female heart.
Though the song released way back in 1997, playing this song in any kopitiam and I assure you heads (with white hair) would bop.
Shopee definitely knows this, getting the man himself to sing a parodied version of his hit song for their CNY sales video.
And, admittedly, it’s pretty good.
The song this time, however, isn’t talking about a man and his attempts to understand girls.
Instead, it features a still rather young-looking Ah Niu (he’s 44) singing about Shopee two-week-long CNY sales from 15 Jan to 2 Feb.
They’ve even released an English version, which is shorter and likely the ones we’d be seeing a lot in the coming video ad breaks.
But come on, it just doesn’t have the same vibe as the Chinese one did, especially since the OG song was in Chinese too.
To put it in a very creative reply in the comments section, there’s another reason why the song and singer are relevant.
Get it? Because its the year of the ox (pronounced niú) and the singer’s name is Ah Niu?
At the very least, it’s a pretty nice change from the slew of PCK ads we’ve had before this.
