2 Neighbourhood Shopping Malls Visited by Covid-19 Cases But Community Cases Decreased

If you carefully examine the coronavirus, you’d notice that it’s more Singaporean than most of us are.

It loves food – it seems to visit almost every food court in the country, even ones in universities.

It loves to break the rules – unlike other viruses, Covid-19 infects many people at once, not abiding by the ethical virus rules in place.

Most importantly, though, it loves to shop – can you name a shopping mall that hasn’t been visited by Covid-19? It’s like trying to name a boba store in Singapore without any customers.

Now, even though it’s already had it’s fair share of shopping, Covid-19 is at it again.

2 Shopping Malls Visited by Covid-19 Cases

The Ministry of Health (MOH) has added two shopping malls to their list of public places visited by infectious Covid-19 cases, the ministry said on Sunday (13 Sep).

They are Waterway Point in Punggol and Clementi Mall in, well, Clementi.

Covid-19’s love for university food hasn’t abated, as The Spread Cafe at the National University of Singapore Business School was listed three times on separate days.

Other recent additions to the list include Tekka Centre and Ameen Makan House along Cheong Chin Nam Road.

Remember, there’s no need to avoid visiting these places; NEA will ensure they’ve been thoroughly cleaned and disinfected, so they’ll be cleaner than most places in the country.

What you should do is monitor your health for the next two weeks (from your date of visit) if you happened to visit the places listed by MOH at the specified times.

Those who exhibit symptoms of an acute respiratory infection such as a cough, sore throat, runny nose, as well as fever and a loss of taste and smell, should see a doctor immediately.

You should also inform your doctor about your exposure history.

Number of Community Cases Continues to Decrease

We might have gotten a little bit giddy after we had only 22 infections reported on 7 Sep, but even though cases have jumped here and there, they’ve remained under 100 since the start of September.

And the good news is that the number of community cases has continued to decrease.

49 new Covid-19 cases were reported on Sunday (13 Sep), 8 of whom were imported cases.

They were all placed on Stay-Home Notice upon arrival and were tested while under quarantine.

They include:

• a Singaporean and permanent resident who returned from India
• four work permit holders currently employed in Singapore who returned from the Philippines
• dependent’s pass holders who arrived from India and the United States

On the plus side, only one community case was reported – an asymptomatic 42-year-old.

He was detected as part of the routine testing of workers in the construction, marine and process sectors who live outside the dormitories, reported ST.

MOH said the average number of community cases reported daily has decreased from two cases a week before to one in the past week.

The number of unlinked cases has also decreased, from a daily average of two to one over the same period.

Unfortunately, cases continue to be detected in migrant worker dormitories.

An average of 45 workers have tested positive for the disease daily since all dorms were cleared, MOH said.

These infections were only detected because the authorities were kiasu enough to carry out surveillance testing even after the dorms were cleared.

If we’re just as kiasu as them, and not just when a new fast-food restaurant is opening, we could soon see zero community cases every day, something we’ve not experienced for what seems like decades.
