With food delivery services’ booming popularity in the COVID-19 season following the Circuit Breaker, a new and unexpected player has come to join the field alongside GrabFood and Foodpanda: Singapore Airlines.
Unable to provide their main service of flying passengers around the world, the airline company has had to diversify their offerings and provide what they do best – services involving their food.
So how do things work in this bizarre new world?
SIA@Home
Well, passengers who wish to enjoy high-class Singapore Airlines meals can now do so in the comfort of their homes.
Although Singapore Airlines have also launched a restaurant service where passengers can experience dining in their A380 planes like it’s the real deal as part of their Discover Your Singapore Airlines initiative, this will only be held across two days.
Thus, for the rest of the time, the SIA@Home service will allow customers to order their desired meal packages online and have them delivered to their homes instead.
Two packages are available for ordering, with the Business Class package starting from $288 and the First Class package starting from $488. Yes, it’s probably the most expensive food delivery service ever.
With that price, it should be able to feed a village, right?
No.
Meals go in sets for two people, and features menus across different cuisines such as French, Australian, Japanese and Indian, handcrafted by famous chefs on Singapore Airlines’ International Culinary Panel. A vegetarian option is also available, featuring special Impossible Meat satay.
Business Class Package
Every meal includes Singapore Airlines’ signature satay canapes, an appetiser, a main course and a dessert.
Hanakoireki and roasted lamb loin are among the choices for the Business Class package main course, and customers will be able to choose between a bottle of French wine or brut champagne to pair with their meal.
Not only will the package come along with the meal – customers who purchase this package will also receive a pair of Business Class amenity kits either from Lalique or Penhaligon.
First Class Package
For $200 more, customers can enjoy the first class package, which entails signature satay canapes, an appetiser, a main course, a dessert and Oscietra caviar.
Main courses for the First Class Package include poached lobster and Kyo-Kaiseki, paired with either a bottle of Burgundy red or white wine.
Customers will also receive a pair of First Class amenity kits along with their meals.
I hate to say this, but this looks to be catered for people who have First-Class Honours degrees.
You Can Hire A Chef Too
Besides what the basic package entails, all customers who purchased these meal packages will receive a digital guide including interactive 360 degree videos of the aircraft cabin featuring the International Culinary Panel chefs, cabin crew and wine panel.
There will even be a specially curated playlist provided for customers to listen to while having their meal for a super immersive experience. Wow.
The digital guide will also include instructions on how to plate and reheat the food when it arrives for the best experience. However, if you don’t trust your own butter fingers, there are also options available to book a chef to come down and heat, plate and serve the meals for you instead.
More add-ons such as dining on Singapore Airlines’ exclusive 22-set tableware and other luxurious amenities are available at an extra fee for those who really want to go all out. Go big or go home, right?
Booking for these home meal packages will begin from 5 Oct on KrisShop.com, after which customers will be contacted by the cabin crew concierge to select their main course and wine options.
Looks like we can really do just about anything from our homes these days, including fine dining.
