Singaporeans are well-known travel buffs, with a vast majority taking a plane overseas at least once a year. That is until the pandemic came like an unexpected thunderstorm and knocked us all out of the air.
Especially Singapore Airlines – so they’ve had to expand their offerings, even more so after their first Flight To Nowhere proposal faced public backlash. If you miss the experience of being in a plane and even the meals they serve, this may just be the thing for you.
Restaurant A380 @ Changi
You’ve heard of fine dining, and dining on the Singapore Flyer or a cable car, but now there’s a new form of dining in town – dining on a plane.
SIA has launched their Discover Your Singapore Airlines suite of three special initiatives to keep their business aloft, including a dining experience, training centre tour, and home delivery food service.
Customers who make a reservation will be able to dine inside an A380 plane, the world’s largest passenger aircraft, only held on two afternoons on 24 and 25 Oct.
They will be given an option to choose between enjoying a three-course meal in the economy and premium economy classes, or a four-course meal in the business and suite classes.
These meals will include a selection of international cuisines as well as dishes from a Peranakan menu, specially created by renowned Singaporean chef Shermay Lee.
Peranakan, Japanese and Western options will be given in the three-course meals for the economy and premium economy classes. More high-class dishes such as Lobster Thermidor and beef fillet will be served in the four-course meals for the business and suite classes.
Every meal comes with two free alcoholic beverages and a free flow selection of other beverages from the menu.
Sounds yummy.
The economy meal package starts from $50, with the premium economy package starting from $90. Upgrading to business class will cost you a hefty sum of $300, and double the price at $600 for suites.
All prices are without GST, and can also be purchased with the exchange of KrisFlyer miles as follows:
It might be on the pricey side, but if you have money left over from not being able to travel, maybe an expensive onboard meal experience will comfort you.
And Other Special Perks
Every guest will also receive special limited edition souvenirs from SIA, in addition to exclusive discounts on their online KrisShop and shopping galleys.
While enjoying one’s meal, guests will also be able to watch movies, just like what everyone did in the good ol’ days when we were able to travel.
Guests who show their traditional heritage spirit by wearing a sarong kebaya, cheongsam, saree, batik shirt, and the likes to their dining experience will receive another special gift from the crew.
That’s not all – guests who are interested can also sign up for a pre-dining restaurant tour around the aircraft, with a look at some private access areas. However, slots are limited.
Reservations will be available online at KrisShop.com starting from 12 Oct, and seats are limited so it’s fastest fingers first to grab a seat.
Maybe the future will see us being able to grab cai png on an airplane.
