An Instagram user, a witness to the chaotic scene, reported that the area was soon “teeming with auxiliary police”.

The accused, Thevendran Rao Rejendran, a Malaysian national, was promptly taken into custody and charged in court today (1 July 2023). He faces a severe accusation: one count of voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon.

According to investigators handling the case, the weapon in question appears to be an ordinary pair of scissors, which was allegedly used with harmful intent.

He had allegedly stabbed the victim in the neck.

The victim of this unfortunate incident is identified as Ruban Raj Tamil Arasan.

Both Thevendran and Ruban are colleagues, reportedly cleaners, in the campus.

The condition of Ruban is currently unknown.

He will be back in court on 14 July 2023 for further mention.

If found guilty, Thevendran could face an imprisonment term of up to seven years, a fine and/or caning.
