Well, I guess “New Year, New Me” doesn’t just apply to normal people like us.
It applies to superheroes too.
(P.S. If you want to make the year better than it already is, Shang-Chi‘s out on Disney+. Don’t say I bojio ah.)
Simu Liu Dyed His Hair Blond, Apologised to Mother on IG
Everyone has different years of ushering in the new year, and Chinese-Canadian actor Simu Liu made his way of marking the new year clearer than ever.

With a casual peace sign, Liu, 32, shared his new head of blonde hair with his 2.4 million followers on Instagram.
What was especially funny (and relatable to us Asians) was his caption: “sorry ma don’t kill me”.
Ah, good ol’ memories of us getting our first hair dye after graduation.
Liu previously rose to fame by starring as the titular character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film, Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings, and we should be seeing a sequel of the well-acclaimed film in the near future.
On-Screen Mother Commented on IG Post
In an act of humour, Hong Kong actress Fala Chen, who acted as Liu’s on-screen mother in Shang-Chi, left a comment on his page that we Asian kids know all too well:
Poking fun at the caption, Chen’s comment garnered over 8,000 likes by netizens, many amused and delighted at the interaction between both stars beyond the big screen.
Ronnie Chieng & Liu’s Banter
Additionally, one of Liu’s other co-stars commented on the post as well, albeit in a more… unfiltered way.
Ronnie Chieng, who acted as Shang Chi’s sister’s assistant in the same film, commented the above in a joking manner. (I hope.)

Funnily enough, Liu had posted on Instagram to wish his fans a happy Chinese New Year, ending his caption with “Unless you or one of your loved ones is @RonnyChieng. Eff that guy.”

Well, I guess we’re left with one question.
What does Liu’s mother actually think of his new hair?
