On 14 Jul, local actor Chen Xi announced on his Instagram that he has tied the knot with Japanese girlfriend Mami.
The 34-year-old son of veteran artistes Edmund Chen and Xiang Yun opted for a small celebration with their closest family instead of a full-blown wedding ceremony.

Wedding Takes Place at Peranakan Shophouse Restaurant
The solemnisation was held at Little Social, a private dining space located in a charming Peranakan shophouse. Chen Xi revealed that the venue choice “reflects a small dream” the couple shares for the future.
Present at the ceremony were Chen Xi’s parents Edmund Chen and Xiang Yun, as well as his younger sister Yi Xin. Mami’s family also made “the long journey” to Singapore for the wedding, with their presence meaning “the world” to the couple.
Chen Xi described the celebration as “a small and heartfelt solemnisation with [their] closest family” rather than a traditional wedding ceremony.
Grateful Messages and Family Blessings for Marriage
Chen Xi expressed deep gratitude to his family in his Instagram post. He thanked his parents for being his “anchor” and for their “quiet sacrifices”, saying they showed him “what love and family truly look like”.
To his sister Yi Xin, he wrote: “Thank you for stepping up without hesitation, and being the real MVP behind the scenes.”
Chen Xi also thanked his aunties, uncles, and extended family “for being the roots and rhythm of this day, and for surrounding us with so much love”.
Xiang Yun commented on Mami’s Instagram post in Japanese, which translates to: “My new daughter, I am so happy to welcome you into our family.”
In another comment, she wrote in Mandarin: “May you respect and love each other, walk hand in hand for a lifetime, and be happy and fulfilled. Blessings from Mummy.”
Edmund Chen commented on another post, saying he was happy to see his son begin a “brand new chapter of life”.
Mami wrote in her own Instagram post that she is “blessed to be part of the family”.
Chen Xi and Mami’s Love Story From Language App to Marriage
The couple first met through an online language exchange app during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. Chen Xi was trying to pick up Japanese when they became online friends.
They discovered shared interests and decided they had found a soulmate in each other. Mami followed Chen Xi to the United Kingdom when he moved there to study.
Chen Xi had not publicly shared his relationship until he announced their surprise engagement on 5 May 2024, after four years of dating.
In his engagement post, he wrote: “From the Land of The Rising Sun, across the seas, and all the way to England — thank you for being my anchor, my compass, and my home from home.”
In his wedding post, Chen Xi described Mami as his “Player 2” and wrote: “New Co-op game mode on!” He added: “Here’s to a lifetime of side quests together.”
Several local artistes congratulated the newlyweds in the comments section, including Romeo Tan, Felicia Chin, Richie Koh and Hong Hui Fang.
