S’pore Idol Judge Ken Lim Charged For Molesting Woman in Office

For the kids who grew up in the early 2000s, you might remember Singapore Idol, a reality singing competition show that crowned winners such as Taufik Batisah, Hady Mirza and Sezairi Sezali.

And those who remember the show probably remember Ken Lim Chih Chiang, who served as a judge on all three seasons.

He also judged The Final 1, another local reality singing competition, in 2013.

Recently, Lim, a music producer and the executive director of Hype Records, has found his way back into the spotlight.

But for all the wrong reasons.

Just today (30 March), the 58-year-old was charged with molestation.

However, it seems like he intends to plead not guilty.

And here’s what you need to know about what happened.

Charged for Molesting Woman at His Office in 2021

In court, Lim was accused of using criminal force to touch a woman’s breast on the evening of 23 November 2021.

The incident occurred at the Hype Records office, which is located along Henderson Road.

For the unaware, Hype Records is a concert promoter, record label and artiste management agency.

The victim, who is 25 years old, was not identified as her identity is protected by a gag order.

Intends to Plead Not Guilty

When speaking about the case, his lawyer revealed that Lim intends to plead not guilty to the charge and maintains that he is innocent.

His lawyer, Mr Navin Naidu of Dentons Rodyk, added that Lim “strenuously and unequivocally” denies the accusation against him.

He also asked for the trial dates to be confirmed and arranged “urgently”, i.e. as soon as possible.

However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Chong Kee En responded by saying that the case did not have any particular reasons that would allow it to be expedited.

Mr Naidu pointed out that Lim had been under investigation for over 15 months before re-emphasising his request for urgent trial dates to be fixed.

Lim Has an Application to Leave Singapore, Offered Bail of $10,000

Mr Naidu also noted that Lim has an application to leave Singapore.

He is due to return to court later today (30 March), as his application will also be heard and decided on.

Currently, Lim has been offered bail of $10,000.

Lim faces up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both if he is found guilty of his charge.

Molestation also carries a penalty of caning, but he will be exempt as he is above the age of 50.
