A 37-year-old man assaulted a staff member at Jyu Yae Bistro in Pasir Ris on 9 Dec 2025 after discovering his bottle of water cost more than he expected.
The incident occurred at 10:42 PM at the bar located in E!Avenue mall at Downtown East.
According to the bar’s marketing director, who spoke to 8World News, a staff member approached the customer to collect payment for his bill.
The customer had assumed the bottle of water cost S$0.20, but it actually cost S$2.50.
Upon learning the actual price, the man suddenly launched an attack on the 23-year-old employee.
Customer Kicks Staff Until He Falls, Provokes Other Patrons
Video footage from the bar shows the attacker dressed in all black, initially appearing to speak with the staff member.
He then hooked his leg around the employee and pulled him to the ground before kicking him multiple times.
He then walked away when other staff members rushed out to assist their colleague.
The injured employee sustained facial bleeding and minor injuries from the attack.
When customers from neighbouring bars came out to see what was happening, the attacker allegedly taunted them and kept saying “come hit me”.
Shen told 8World News the man “behaved like a thug” and appeared to be trying to provoke others into fighting him.
She suggested he was attempting to make the situation appear as self-defence when police arrived.
Repeat Offender Banned from All Jyu Concepts Establishments
The injured employee was conveyed conscious to hospital for treatment.
He has since been discharged and was given three days of medical leave.
Jyu Yae Bistro has filed a police report against the attacker.
The bar announced on Instagram that the man has been permanently banned from all establishments under Jyu Concepts, which includes Jyu Yae, Jyu Lae, and Jyu Gae.
According to the bar’s marketing director, this was not the customer’s first offence at their venues.
She revealed he is a repeat offender who has deliberately caused trouble at bars before, and other establishments have also fallen victim to his behaviour.
The ban was implemented to protect the safety of both staff and customers at all their outlets.
The police said they received a call for assistance at 1 Pasir Ris Close at 10:45 PM. They confirmed that a 37-year-old man is currently assisting with investigations.
The case remains under investigation.
