A 69-year-old Singaporean man appeared in court on 7 Aug 2025, facing seven charges related to sexual offences against two children. The accused performed sexual acts on victims aged eight and 12 or 13 when the alleged crimes occurred.
The man faces six counts of committing obscene acts against children under the Children and Young Persons Act. He also faces one charge of intentionally producing child abuse material.
A gag order protects the identities of the children and prohibits publication of information that could lead to their identification. The court proceedings took place at the State Courts in Singapore.
Pattern of Alleged Abuse Spanning Nearly Two Years
The charges detail offences that took place between November 2020 and June 2022 at a flat in Bedok. The man allegedly used a digital camera to photograph the older victim’s genital region on multiple occasions.
Between 5 Nov and 11 Nov 2020, he took 62 pictures of the 12-year-old boy’s private parts.
In March 2021, the accused allegedly performed a sex act on the same boy. On 5 Mar 2021, charge sheets state he performed sex acts on the victim and kissed him.
The man repeated similar acts on 6 Aug 2021 with the older child. He allegedly performed another sex act on the boy in June 2022. The boy was 13 by this time.
The younger victim, whose gender was not apparent in redacted charge sheets, was allegedly subjected to a sex act sometime in March 2021 at the age of eight.
Court Proceedings and Potential Penalties
The accused indicated his intention to plead guilty to six of the seven charges. He plans to contest only the charge involving the eight-year-old victim.
The man requested legal representation from the Public Defender’s Office and received directions on the application process. He will return to court in September 2025.
Each charge of committing obscene acts against a child carries a maximum penalty of seven years in jail, a fine of up to $10,000, or both. Repeat offenders face increased sentences of up to 10 years’ imprisonment and fines reaching $20,000 per charge.
The child abuse material charge carries a maximum 10-year jail term plus fines or caning. The accused cannot receive caning as he is above the age of 50.
The nature of any relationship, if any, between the man and the victims remains unclear at this stage.
