In the wee hours of yesterday (26 June), a motorcyclist from Singapore passed away after losing control of his vehicle and falling off a highway flyover in Malaysia.
Based on reports by China Press, the motorcyclist was riding along the Eastern Dispersal Link highway towards the land checkpoint in Johor Bahru at around 2 am when the incident happened.
He was just 22 years old.
Towing Company Uploaded Photos on Facebook to Find His Family
Sin Mah Bike Towing, the towing company assigned to the case, uploaded a series of photos on Facebook in an attempt to find the motorcyclist’s family.
In the post, multiple photos with bloodstains under the highway showed the distance of his fall.
The licence plate of the Singapore-registered Honda CB400 motorcycle was featured in the post as well.
“A [motorcycle rider] from Singapore was on his way back to Singapore, a traffic accident occurred at EDL highway and he was thrown under the bridge and died at the scene,” the company wrote in its Facebook caption.
When interviewed by The Straits Times, Mr Steven Lew, the towing company’s founder, mentioned that the cyclist’s brother-in-law got in touch with the company at around 10 am on Monday (26 June).
He added that his family had most likely found out about the victim’s death through the Facebook post.
Apart from that, Mr Lew revealed that the victim had just gotten his motorcycle licence a month ago, and the accident might have been caused due to his unfamiliarity with the highway.
He pointed out that the highway, which the 22-year-old fell off after hitting the stone wall of the flyover, requires drivers and cyclists to make a sharp turn.
Motorcycle Was a Rental Vehicle
Apart from that, Mr Lew shared that the motorcycle the deceased was riding was a rental vehicle.
However, he did not know which company the victim rented the motorcycle from.
With regards to the motorcycle, it had skidded along the highway and was found around one kilometre away from the body when relevant personnel reached the scene.
Based on the photos posted by Sin Mah Bike Towing, the company towed the motorcycle away after that.
Relatives Posted Tributes on Social Media
After the incident came to light, some of the victim’s relatives posted tributes to him on social media.
One of them was the victim’s older brother, who identified the victim as Muhammad As Daniel.
He shared that the last time he met up with his younger brother was during Hari Raya Puasa this year and that they “separated in 2020”.
Another person who knew the victim also posted a public tribute to express his sorrow at the victim’s passing.
