Singtel Giving Unlimited Data For Singtel Users on 10 Nov But Netizens Still Triggered

Unless you’re like my mom who has a data bundle but never uses data unless there’s a WIFI network available, you’ll probably know that on Thursday night to Friday morning, Singtel data network was down for quite a few hours.

If you were hoping to get a Grab home after a long day at work…or you were thinking of browsing your beloved Instagram while you’re on the way home…or worst, you were expecting a very important Whatsapp from your girlfriend (like what food she wanted)…

…well, you were not in luck then.

Because on 18 Oct, Singtel had one major network disruption that lasted about 3 hours.

You can read more about it here.

Singtel 3-Hour Network Disruption on 18 Oct

On Thursday evening, thousands of Singtel users were frantically trying to remember if they forgot to pay their mobile phone bills.

The Singtel network suffered a disruption and thousands of phones were unable to access mobile services.

The disruption lasted from 10 pm on Thursday to 1.22 am on Friday morning.

Singtel revealed that it was caused by a “power-related issue”.

Obviously, Singtel’s feeling pretty remorseful about the incident because they’ve decided to do something to make up for it.

And They’re Bribing You With Data

What does Singaporeans love? Data.

And what better way to make up for the loss of data, then to give away free data, right?

On 10 Nov, Singtel is giving all Singtel prepaid and postpaid users one day unlimited free data.

It’s a Saturday, so you can go out with your friends and stream all the Yanxi Palace episodes you’ve ever wanted.

They added that they apologise for the inconvenience caused and would like to thank all Singtel customers for their patience.

However, Netizens Not Happy

Now, if you’re thinking that Singaporeans are going to be happy with free data…

Well, most probably are.

But there are a selected few individuals who felt that the gesture by Singtel wasn’t enough.

Some netizens felt that the free data gesture wasn’t needed.

Instead, what they’d really want is actually…bill rebates.

One suggested that Singtel allow people to bring their unused data to the next month instead.

While others are wondering, why one month later?

And there’s the question of: what if I already have unlimited data?

But one MVP comment got it right, though.

Time to move on.

Unless you’re allegedly still having issues with your line, that is.

Singtel Users Aren’t the Only Ones Affected

Think you’ve had it bad because you’re a Singtel user? Well, treasure that one-day free data because some people have it worse.

In case you’re not aware, there has been a few of these virtual network operators operating in Singapore; a popular example would be Circle.Life. These operators use the resources of the three (soon to be four) telcos to sell their plans to end-consumers. For example, Circle.Life uses M1 resources.

Zero1 is one of these MVNOs, and as its partner is Singtel, it was affected, too.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
