Man Who Slashed 2 Bosses with a Chopper & Killed 1 Gets 20 Years’ Jail

Yee Jing Man, 24, a warehouse worker at an online retailer who was fired from his job, took to slashing two directors with a chopper on 11 March 2019.

One of the two directors was killed while the other sustained severe injuries.

As for a third director, Yee demanded that he consume a red packet with S$20 that the man had given him for Chinese New Year.

He then blocked off the office and threatened his colleagues with the chopper and a knife to prevent them from calling the police, before he stabbed and slashed himself.

Yee was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment on 9 June for his attack.

He pleaded guilty to one count of culpable homicide for killing Mr Lin Xinjie, 29, as well as causing grievous hurt with a dangerous weapon to Mr Li Mingqiao, 30.

There had been eight other charges taken into consideration during sentencing, including one of criminal intimidation as he had threatened the third director, Mr Ryan Pan Zai Xing.

Among these eight other charges are four of wrongful confinement.

Following his arrest, Yee underwent an assessment and was found to be suffering from major depressive disorder, which substantially reduced his responsibility for his actions.

Yee Had Been Performing Well in the Company Initially

Back in March 2017, Yee’s girlfriend had recommended him to Mr Lin and he began working for the e-commerce company Jiji.

The office of the company is located in Sungei Kadut Loop.

Yee had performed well at his company at the start and Mr Lin gave him a red packet with S$999 for Chinese New Year in 2018. He also offered to promote Yee to warehouse manager with an increase in wages from S$1,700 to S$2,000.

However, Yee did not accept this offer as he did not want the increased workload and stress that would come along with the promotion.

His performance at the company faced a decline from September 2018. According to court documents, he did not attend work for 69 days.

Yee felt that he had been unfairly reprimanded by Mr Lin and that Mr Li had adopted a sarcastic attitude towards him.

By February 2019, Yee had begun harbouring thoughts of murdering the directors with a chopper, especially Mr Lin and Mr Li.

According to prosecutors, he had a better relationship with Mr Pan, who had aided him with his work.

On 12 Feb 2019, Yee’s girlfriend told him that Mr Lin wanted to sack him. Yee then purchased a chopper, but later changed his mind about murdering Mr Lin.

Yee took time off for the rest of the month and spent that time playing mobile games and going online to look for efficient methods of murder.

He returned to work on 1 March 2019, but eventually stopped by 6 March.

On 11 March, he received a forwarded message from his girlfriend. The message was from Mr Pan, stating that Yee was no longer required to attend work.

He then decided to execute his murder plan and headed to the office.

Yee made his way to Mr Li, who was at his desk, and slashed his head and neck from behind.

He then slashed the back of Mr Lin’s head, neck, right forearm and right index finger.

Yee then threatened Mr Pan with the chopper, and Mr Pan placed the red packet in his mouth, in compliance with Yee’s order.

One of the employees eventually called the police.

Finally, Yee stabbed himself in the abdomen and slashed his wrist, saying, “I have no other way to go.”

The police arrived at the scene and, after a period of struggle, managed to restrain Yee.

Mr Lin was found dead at the scene. Mr Li had to undergo emergency surgery for the injuries he sustained and was eventually discharged on 16 March. He is currently undergoing physiotherapy.
