SMRT Files Police Report Against Man Who Hung a Bicycle on the Grab Poles Inside a Train

There are many things you can’t do on an MRT in Singapore.

  1. Eat
  2. Bring durians
  3. Eat durians
  4. Drink
  5. Smoke
  6. Play football
  7. Poop

These things are understandable, of course.

But there are other lesser-known rules, like the one barring commuters from bringing bicycles that cannot be folded on the train.

Despite being informed of this rule, one man defiantly brought his bicycle along with him on board a train and even hung it on the grab poles.

Man Hangs Bicycle on MRT Grab Poles

A video of a bicycle taking a ride on the MRT has recently made the rounds on social media, after it was shared in a Facebook post on Wednesday (16 Dec).

The video has since been taken down, but has been reposted on several platforms:

In the video, a bicycle can be seen hanging from the grab poles by its seat and handlebar, swaying with the movement of the train and looking like it can fall at any moment.

The man who’s standing next to the bicycle, wearing pants patterned with a camouflage print, appears to be the owner of the hanging bike.

In the video, he can be heard flinging a string of expletives at an unknown commuter or group of commuters, showing off his strong command of Hokkien, Malay, and English.

At one point, he launched into a tirade about testicles, after one of his verbal attacks drew laughter.

“Don’t laugh lah, your balls are shivering. Don’t laugh, your balls are shivering. Ok? If I can take off your pants and show the world how big you are, they’ll laugh at you.”

Yeah… this guy is weird.

SMRT Files Police Report Against Man

According to an SMRT post on Facebook, the incident occurred around 7.15pm on Tuesday (15 Dec).

SMRT staff tried to stop a male commuter with a non-foldable bicycle from entering the train at Woodlands station, but he was uncooperative and forced his way into the train.

For those who don’t know, bikes and PMDs must be folded at all times and switched off when brought on board trains and buses.

They are not permitted on the staircases or upper decks of double-decker buses.

After forcing his way into the train, the commuter subsequently transferred to a west-bound train at Jurong East station and exited at Pioneer station at about 7.50pm.

SMRT said it has since identified the commuter and lodged a police report.

“For the safety and comfort of all commuters, we would like to remind everyone to observe regulations when bringing foldable bicycles and personal mobility devices on board trains and buses,” SMRT said in their post.

The man is facing a fine of $500.
