On 17 June 2025, a 46-year-old man in Singapore discovered a small snail in his economy rice meal purchased from BK Eating House on Circular Road.
The customer, who gave his name as Tommy, told MS News that he had visited the eatery several times before.
He paid S$6.50 for his lunch that day. Tommy selected tofu and leek as part of his meal.

He thought he would have tofu and leek for extra protein, until he saw the snail he had found on his plate. He also mentioned that snails can carry parasites.
Tommy did not notify the stall staff about the snail. He also chose not to report the incident to any authorities.
Food Safety Concerns
Snail meat, sometimes called escargot, is eaten in many countries.
However, if not cooked thoroughly, snails can carry parasites and toxins that may be harmful to humans. Proper cleaning and cooking are required to reduce health risks.
Similar Incidents
There have been other incidents in the region involving snails in food.
In Taiwan, three people died and nine were hospitalised after eating sticky rice dumplings filled with snail meat. The cases were linked to improper preparation of the snail meat.
BK Eating House has not issued a public statement regarding this specific incident as of 22 June 2025.
Tommy has continued to patronise the store in the past. He did not indicate whether he would return after this experience.
