It’s common knowledge that you shouldn’t sniff glue.

But other than the obvious health effects, have you ever asked why?

Man Arrested After Sniffing Glue and Threatening to Harm Pregnant Wife

On Wednesday (30 June), 27-year-old Su Yong Le was sentenced to 21 months jail after being caught sniffing glue and threatening to harm his pregnant wife.

Su faced a total of thirteen charges, of which he pleaded guilty to nine. These nine charges include charges of theft, intimidation, and voluntarily causing hurt to a public servant, as well as charges for violating the Protection from Harassment Act and the Intoxicating Substances Act.

The remaining four charges were taken into consideration during his sentencing.

The Incident

The incident took place on 12 January this year around 2am, when the accused’s 31-year-old pregnant wife arrived home after delivering food.

Upon arriving home, she had caught the accused sniffing glue in the living room. The court heard that the accused had gotten into an argument with his wife later on when he couldn’t find any glue.

During the argument, the accused headed to the kitchen and took out a 15cm long knife which he used to slash his left arm.

A woman who had witnessed this taking place immediately contacted the police about the situation.

When the police arrived, the accused had allegedly stopped his wife from opening the door. He waved the knife at her, threatening that he would use the knife to stab her and her unborn child if she opened the door.

However, his wife persisted in opening the door. The police arrested the accused upon entering the house.

According to the prosecutor, the accused had ignored the presence of the police, instead, he threatened his wife right in front of the police. Highlighting that he had done so while holding a knife, and that the accused had other offences, the prosecutor asked for two years’ jail for Su.

Su’s defence lawyer argued that his client had only been holding the knife to inflict self-harm, not to injure his wife. Su had only threatened his wife in a fit of anger, said the defence lawyer. He pointed out that his client did not show any intention to harm her even after she had opened the door.

Ahem, are we forgetting about the part where he pointed a knife at his wife to threaten her?

Adding that the accused did not have any history of domestic violence, Su’s defence lawyer pleaded with the judge for a lighter sentence.
