In the last two months, several confirmed Covid-19 cases were later found to have ignored their coronavirus symptoms and gone about their day.
Since then, the authorities have repeatedly urged residents to seek medical attention if they’re unwell.
In response, some residents have basically said:Â we hear what you’re saying, but nah.Â
Sole Community Case Reported on 5 Feb Had Ignored Symptoms & Was Found During TB Screening
Of the 25 new infections reported on Friday (5 Feb), two were locally transmitted; one from the community and another from a dormitory.
The remaining 23 Covid-19 cases were all imported and were placed on stay-home notice upon arrival in Singapore.
The community case, Case 59980, is a 56-year-old Singaporean man who works as an import officer at Yusen Logistics at Changi Cargo Megaplex.
The man developed a cough on 2 Feb, which is the symptom most commonly experienced by Covid-19 patients.
However, he didn’t seek medical attention, and even continued to go to work.Â
His infection had only been detected because he had been identified as a contact of a tuberculosis case at his workplace.
After heading to the Tuberculosis Control Unit on 4 Feb for screening, he was tested for Covid-19 after reporting his symptoms.
His test returned a positive result and he was taken to the National Centre for Infectious Diseases in an ambulance.
The man’s serological test result has come back negative, indicating that this is likely a fresh infection.
Fortunately, his job does not involve interacting with flight passengers.
Dormitory Case at Soon Loon Street
Meanwhile, the case detected in the dormitory is a 31-year-old Bangladeshi man who stays at 1 Soon Lee Street.
He arrived in the country on 13 Dec, and had not begun working yet.
In accordance with border measures, the man served a stay-home notice (SHN) at a dedicated facility until 27 Dec.
His swab test during his SHN on 23 Dec had come back negative.
He was also tested as part of the rostered routine testing on 13 Jan, and this came back negative as well.
However, the man tested positive during another rostered routine testing on 4 Feb.
His serology test has come back positive as well, but the authorities have classified the infection as locally-transmitted, due to the relatively long time interval between his travel and positive Covid-19 test.
Four Malls Added to List of Public Places Visited by Covid-19 Cases
On Friday, the Ministry of Health (MOH) added four malls to the list of public places visited by Covid-19 community cases during their infectious period.
They are Jurong Point, White Sands, Northpoint City, and Sun Plaza.
Here’s the updated list:
There’s no need to panic if you’ve visited these places. MOH would have identified close contacts and notified them.
Still, those who visited these locations at the specified timings should monitor their health for two weeks from their date of visit.
If you develop symptoms of acute respiratory infection, such as cough, sore throat, and runny nose, as well as fever and loss of taste or smell, you should seek medical attention.
The authorities have been saying that a lot lately, because it’s vital to prevent further transmission of the virus.
As for the rest of us, there’s no need to avoid these places, as they’ve been thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.
