Sole Community COVID-19 Case Reported on 21 Dec Investigated for Allegedly Breaking COVID-19 Rules

Gone are the days where we would check the Goody Feed app for the daily number of Covid-19 infections and hope it didn’t cross 1,000.

These days, we get upset if we report even one case in dormitories or the community.

Fortunately, we’ve managed to go over two weeks without any Covid-19 community cases, with the last one reported on 5 Dec.

But, as you know, all good things must come to an end.

One Community Case Reported on Monday (21 Dec)

One Covid-19 community case was reported on Monday (21 Dec), along with nine imported infections.

The sole community case is a 39-year-old Singaporean woman. She was asymptomatic.

She was detected when she was tested for the coronavirus before a scheduled cruise trip. She was taken to the National Centre for Infectious Diseases the following day, where her test returned a positive result, said the Ministry of Health (MOH).

She lives at Jurong West Street 93 and had been working at Ruising Chemicals at 18 Boon Lay Way before her test result was confirmed.

Investigated for Allegedly Breaking COVID-19 Rules

Further investigations have revealed that the woman went on a Southern Islands tour in a group of 12 people on 14 Dec.

This is more than double the 5-person limit mandated for social gatherings.

She was on the tour with three families, including hers.

Consequently, the authorities will be carrying out investigations to assess if there was any breach of safe management measures when she was on the tour.

In the meantime, all her identified close contacts have been isolated and placed on quarantine and will be tested at the start and end of their quarantine period, MOH said.

Serological tests will also be done on her household and family contacts to determine if they had a previous infection, and whether they were the source of the transmission.

Anchorpoint, JCube, & Raffles City Added to MOH’s List

Following the community case on Monday, MOH added six shopping centres and two supermarkets to its list of public places visited by infectious Covid-19 community cases.

The six malls are:

  • Anchorpoint Shopping Centre
  • JCube
  • Takashimaya
  • Westgate
  • Raffles City Shopping Centre
  • CityLink

The two supermarkets on the list were Prime Supermarket on Jurong West Street 91, visited on 12 Dec, and NTUC FairPrice at Clementi Avenue 3, visited on 19 Dec.

Remember, there’s no need to avoid visiting these places; NEA will ensure they’ve been thoroughly cleaned and disinfected, so they’ll be cleaner than most places in the country.

What you should do is monitor your health for the next two weeks (from your date of visit) if you happened to visit the places listed by MOH at the specified times.

Those who exhibit symptoms of an acute respiratory infection such as a cough, sore throat, runny nose, as well as fever and a loss of taste and smell, should see a doctor immediately.

You should also inform your doctor about your exposure history.

Those identified as close contacts of confirmed cases would already have been notified by MOH.

Christmas is almost upon us, and since we could get carried away in the haze of our merriment and flout safe distancing rules, it’s important to remind ourselves to be safe, not just to protect ourselves, but our loved ones as well.
