Even amongst the recent spate of unforgiving crimes here, Andy Koh Ju Hua’s case still stands out as one of the more prominent ones – due to the nature of the assaults and who they’re performed on.

Lest you’re unaware, Koh was remanded for abusing his own mother over three years. Apart from punching her in the face, he also forced her to hold an ice pack to her face for 12 hours straight, disallowed her from consuming anything other than plain water and assaulted her private parts with a metal padlock.

He subsequently pleaded guilty to four counts of voluntarily causing hurt, and was given an imprisonment term of 56 weeks.

Father Only Knew of Son’s Arrest for Abusing Mother for 3 Yrs Through the News

Yet incredibly, it appears that Koh’s own father has only just recently learnt of the news.

That, despite the fact that he had lived with his wife and son for a significant part of the abuse period.

According to ZaobaoMr Koh supposedly has no knowledge of his son’s behaviour over the last three years.

Apparently, the younger Koh was the only son in the family. The family of three lived together in a four-room flat.

According to the news report, Mr Koh heads out for work at 10:00 a.m. and returns at 6:00 p.m. every day. He stated that his son had always interacted normally with him, and never spoke loudly to his parents.

In the wake of such events, Mr Koh realised that the abuse must have occurred when he was not at home.

Personal Protection Order

Apparently, Mr Koh’s wife, a housewife, had moved out in June 2020 for reasons unknown to him. All he knew was that she had applied for a personal protection order and that it was related to her exit.

They did not keep in contact after she moved.

Mr Koh added that he only learnt of his son’s imprisonment a few months ago, and was shocked to hear it.

“Last week my relatives suddenly asked me to read the newspaper and said, “Your son’s face is in the newspaper”. I only found out the ins and outs of the whole thing after reading the report.

“I felt very uncomfortable after reading it.”

“Live Happily With Her”

According to reports, the younger Koh is currently on remand and is receiving psychological treatment.

He has since stated in court that he hopes to reunite with his mother in the future, “live happily with her” and “take care of her in the remaining days”.
