SPCA Investigating Incident of Woman Caning Dog on Condo Balcony Along Boon Teck Road

Remember the saying that a dog is a man’s best friend?

Yeah, it seems like for one woman, this couldn’t be further from the truth.

If anything, she probably thinks a dog is her arch-nemesis, with how she’d been treating it.

Woman Seen Abusing Dog on Balcony

Videos of a woman abusing her dog have been shared on Stomp, after a Stomp contributor witnessed the incident while visiting friends.

The incident took place on 13 May, at VA Residences, a condominium along Boon Teck Road. The Stomp contributor, G, had been visiting friends who had just moved into the unit opposite the woman’s.

In one video, the woman can be seen hitting the dog with a stick several times on her balcony. The dog, wearing a dog cone, can be seen trying to get away as it yelps in distress. The woman can later be seen successfully backing the dog into a corner, where she continues to beat it.

In another video, the woman can be seen carrying the dog back into the unit.

G, who uploaded the videos on Stomp, commented that “This has been happening almost every other day ever since my friends moved there.” He added, “The woman would also put the dog out when it rains, hit the dog continuously and even kick it.”

The incident has since been reported to The Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), who is currently investigating the incident.

According to AsiaOne, SPCA Executive Director Dr Jaipal Singh Gill has also confirmed that the SPCA is aware of the case, and that investigations are ongoing.

Speaking to Stomp, Dr Gill stated that “It is entirely inappropriate to hit a dog and to discipline an animal physically in this manner.”

100% agreed. To put it nicely, you might call this woman’s actions “harsh disciplining”—but to put it plainly, it’s just animal abuse.

Rising Incidents of Cruelty to Animals

Recently, there have been more and more cases of animal abuse in Singapore.

In perhaps one of the biggest cases of animal abuse last year, the operator of the pet hotel Platinium Dogs Clubs, 31-year-old Charlotte Liew, was charged in court on 15 June 2020 for animal abuse and other offences involving 10 dogs.

Liew faced 13 charges, including six counts of failing to ensure that the dogs were provided with adequate food and water. She was also charged with one count of failing to ensure that the dogs under the pet hotel’s care were protected from or rapidly diagnosed of significant injury or disease.

Other offences included causing unnecessary pain or suffering to some of the dogs—she allegedly did not clean the dogs periodically, and would let them sit in its own urine and faeces for extended periods. She also failed to give them medical attention.

Even worse, she had lied to a public servant about the whereabouts of a Shetland sheepdog, Prince, when in reality it had actually died while under the care of the pet hotel.

That’s not all—Liew had also destroyed evidence related to Prince’s death by engaging a pet cremation service provider to cremate Prince. In doing so, she was charged with intentionally obstructing the course of justice.

Wow, guilty much?

Pet abuse doesn’t just stop at cats and dogs—it extends to all sorts of animals, including hamsters and frogs.

Yep, frogs. You heard me right.

In another incident in December 2020, a group of teens were investigated for playing foosball using live frogs

Videos of the incident showed a frog on the foosball table trying to avoid being hit by the flying ball that was being hit around by the teens. The group of teens can also be seen intentionally hitting the ball at the frog in another video.

Folks, is it normal to just go hey, you know what would be a great idea? Torturing some frogs while playing foosball! I really doubt it.
