Humans have all sorts of odd habits.
My colleague, for example, has this bizarre habit of writing articles instead of pretending to be in the toilet for 5 hours a day while at work.
Colleague: That’s just called working. Do you really pretend to be in the toilet 5 hours a day?
*starts sweating* Uh, I’m not pretending, I have a leftover McSpicy every day for breakfast.
While some (not me) may argue that working efficiently is a healthy habit, this man’s spittle-flinging habit certainly isn’t.
Man Flung His Spittle at Women For Over a Year
For the last year or so, Alias Talib has been going around grossing out women around the country.
According to the police, the 56-year-old had a habit of spitting into his hands and flinging his spittle at women.
He would target women who were alone and follow them until he found a desirable location.
If the woman noticed him, he would turn around and walk off. But if she were unaware of his presence, he would spit into his hand and then throw his spittle at her.
Why? No one knows.Â
After flinging his spittle at these poor women, he would then flee to avoid getting caught.
However, the man’s offences came to light after an incident on 9 Feb last year.
Threw Spittle at Woman’s Back at Lift Lobby
At around 6.15am that day, a 31-year-old woman was walking along the void deck of Block 838 Yishun Street 81.
She was approaching the lift lobby near Monfort Care Centre when she felt something warm and wet hit her back.
When she turned around, she saw Alias.
The woman made a police report about two hours later, and officers managed to track Alias down using footage from police cameras.
Investigations showed that the man had seen the victim from afar and decided to follow her, before spitting in his hand and flinging his spittle at the woman’s back.
Jailed For 3 Weeks
The 56-year-old pleaded guilty to one count of intentionally using criminal force to cause annoyance, and was sentenced on Thursday (15 Apr) to 3 weeks’ jail.
Investigations revealed that Alias had been doing this for over a year before being caught. Fortunately, his spittle did not always land on the targeted women.
Alias’s habit, while disgusting, was also dangerous as his offence occurred around the time when COVID-19 cases were on the rise in Singapore.
For his offence, Alias could have been jailed for up to three months, fined up to S$1,500, or both.
